Fruit Crops Production in 2020 The fruit crops production in the province went down by 5.8 percent in 2020 or about 50,644.42 metric tons from 53,750.65 metric tons in 2019. Major Fruit Crops The province produced a total of 43,329.76 metric tons of fruits under major classification in 2020. It decreased by 5.0 percent from previous year’s level of 45,618.76 metric tons. Of the major fruit crops, banana contributed more than half to the total production with 65.4 percent. It was followed by calamansi, mango and pineapple with 17.5 percent, 13.6 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively. Banana production in 2020 was 28,357.75 metric tons which is lower by 6.4 percent from previous year’s production of 30,281.87 metric tons. Of the total banana production in 2020, saba variety with 19,571.96 metric tons contributed the largest share of 69.0 percent. It was followed by latundan variety with 5,560.46 metric tons production or 19.6 percent share. Lacatan, bungulan and other varieties of banana comprised the remaining share of 11.4 percent. Calamansi production went down by 2.7 percent, from 2019 level of 7,774.89 metric tons to 7,568.12 metric tons in 2020. In 2020, mango production was 5,888.53 metric tons. It dropped by 1.8 percent compared to 5,993.98 metric tons produced a year ago. More than half (51.7 percent) of the total mango production came from mango carabao variety. It registered a total production of 3,046.96 metric tons. Production of piko variety had the second largest share of 45.3 percent or 2,665.16 metric tons. Other variety of mango comprised the remaining 3.0 percent of the total mango output in 2020. Pineapple production in 2020 declined to 1,515.36 metric tons, lower by 3.4 percent compared to previous year’s level of 1,568.02 metric tons. Priority Fruit Crops A total of 4,844.15 metric tons of priority fruits was produced in the province in 2020. It decreased by 15.1 percent from previous year’s output of 5,707.79 metric tons. Papaya contributed almost half (49.7 percent) to the total production of priority fruits. It was followed by lanzones, mandarin and watermelon with 24.0 percent, Mandarin and watermelon came next with 12.5 percent and 10.1 percent, respectively. The remaining 3.7 percent was composed of rambutan, mangosteen, tamarind and orange. Orange production recorded the least percentage share of only 0.03 percent. Minor Fruit Crops In 2020, the province produced a total of 2,439.26 metric tons of minor fruit crops. It rose by 1.9 percent compared to the prior year’s output of 2,394.14 metric tons. Jackfruit contributed the biggest share of 47.9 percent to the total minor fruit crops production. It was followed by santol and pomelo with 17.9 percent and 15.1 percent share, respectively. Atis (4.5 percent) and guayabano (4.1 percent) came next. Avocado, guava, sineguelas, duhat, chico and starapple comprised the remaining 10.5 percent share. Other Fruit Crops The province recorded a total production of 31.25 metric tons for other fruits. This production was 4.3 percent higher compared to last year’s production of 29.96 metric tons.   Area Planted/Harvested for Fruit Crops in 2020 In 2020, the area planted/harvested for fruit crops was recorded at 13,516.50 hectares. It increased by 50.50 hectares or 0.4 percent from previous year’s figure of 13,466.00 hectares. Major fruit crops recorded the highest increment in area planted/harvested in 2020 with 53.00 hectares. It rose to 11,238.00 hectares in 2020 from 11,185.00 hectares in 2019. Minimal increase was observed in the area planted/harvested for minor and other fruit crops with 3.50 hectares and 1.00 hectare, respectively. Area planted for minor fruit crops was 1,626.50 hectares while other fruit crops registered 51.00 hectares. Only priority fruit crops exhibited decrement in the area planted/harvested with 601.00 hectares in 2020 from 608.00 hectares in the previous year. Number of Bearing Trees/Hills/Vines for Fruit Crops in 2020 The number of fruit crops bearing trees/hills/vines declined by 0.1 percent in 2020 from 3,406,847 trees in 2019 to 3,404,703 trees during the year. Likewise, the reported number of bearing trees/hills/vines of major fruit crops decreased by 0.1 percent, from previous year’s figure of 2,983,139 trees to 2,980,599 in 2020. In contrast, number of bearing trees/hills/vines of other fruit crops in 2020 increased by 3.2 percent. It rose to 12,716 trees during the year from 2019 figure of 12,327. Both priority and minor fruit crops had minimal change in the number of bearing trees/hills/vines for 2020.

SPECIAL RELEASE: 2021 CROPS PRODUCTION IN QUEZON

A total of 1,520,260.40 metric tons of crops were produced in the province in 2021. This was 0.7 percent higher compared to the previous year’s figure of 1,509,605.07 metric tons.

SPECIAL RELEASE: 2020 NON-FOOD AND INDUSTRIAL CROPS SITUATION IN QUEZON

The non-food and industrial crops production in the province dropped by about 8.8 percent from 1,427,841.95 metric tons in 2019 to 1,301,571.41 metric tons in 2020.
