Non-Food and Industrial Crops Production in 2020 The non-food and industrial crops production in the province dropped by about 8.8 percent from 1,427,841.95 metric tons in 2019 to 1,301,571.41 metric tons in 2020. Major Non-Food and Industrial Crops The province produced a total of 1,300,866.44 metric tons of non-food and industrial crops under major classification during the year. It decreased by 8.8 percent from previous year’s level of 1,426,689.88 metric tons. Of the major non-food and industrial crops, coconut (with husk) accounted for 99.8 percent of the total production. The remaining 0.2 percent was composed of sugarcane (cane) for centrifugal sugar, coffee (dried berries with pulp) and abaca (dried raw fiber). A significant drop in the production of abaca was recorded in 2020 with only 0.03 metric tons. It was 99.3 percent lower compared to last year’s production of 4.51 metric tons. Coconut (with husk) production in 2020 was 1,298,277.19 metric tons. It dropped by 8.8 percent from last year’s production of 1,422,880.12 metric tons. Of the total coconut production, matured coconut contributed the largest share of 99.8 percent or 1,295,960.61 metric tons while young coconut had only 0.2 percent share or 2,316.58 metric tons. The production of coffee (dried berries with pulp) decreased by 2.1 percent, from 2019 level of 193.25 metric tons to 189.22 metric tons in 2020. Among the coffee variety, excelsa had the highest share of 42.6 percent, equivalent to 80.52 metric tons. This was followed by robusta with 38.5 percent share or 72.77 metric tons. Liberica variety shared the least percentage of 19.0 percent. Sugarcane (cane) for centrifugal sugar production reached 2,400.00 metric tons, a decrement of 33.6 percent compared to the 3,612.00 metric tons produced a year ago. PRIORITY FRUIT CROPS A total of 389.23 metric tons production of priority non-food and industrial crops was registered in the province in 2020. It increased by 2.1 percent from previous output of 381.23 metric tons. More than half or 61.7 percent of the total production of priority non-food and industrial crops came from coconut sap/tuba. It was followed by bromeliad (live plants with pot) with 28.0 percent share. Green corn stalk and cacao (dried beans with pulp) came next with 6.7 percent and 3.1 percent shares, respectively. The least percentage share was recorded to palm fruit kaong (kernel) with only 0.5 percent. Minor Non-Food and Industrial Crops In 2020, the province had a total production of 195.14 metric tons of minor non-food and industrial crops. The prior year’s output of 668.30 metric tons dropped by 70.8 percent during the year. Coir (dried raw fiber) contributed the biggest share of 51.0 percent to the total minor non-food and industrial crops production. It was followed by nipa sap with 22.7 percent share. Pili nut (dried nut with shell) and laza/tambo (dried flower with stalk) came next with 10.9 percent and 7.1 percent share, respectively. The remaining 8.2 percent share was composed of orchids, banana leaves and coconut leaves (dried). Other Non-Food and Industrial Crops The province recorded a total production of 120.60 metric tons for other non-food and industrial crops. This production was 17.6 percent higher compared to last year’s production of 102.54 metric tons. Area Planted/Harvested for Non-Food and Industrial Crops in 2020 In 2020, the area planted/harvested for non-food and industrial crops was recorded at 376,638.41 hectares. It decreased by only 6.00 hectares from previous year’s figure of 376,644.41 hectares. Area planted/harvested for priority non-food and industrial crops recorded a 104.00 hectare increase in 2020. It rose to 603.00 hectares during the year compared to 499.00 hectares in 2019. In contrast, area planted/harvested for major non-food and industrial crops dropped to 375,992.00 hectares in 2020 from 376,102.00 hectares during the previous year. It went down by 110.00 hectares or 0.03 percent. No change in area planted/harvested was registered for both minor and other non-food and industrial crops with 22.00 hectares and 21.41 hectares, respectively. Number of Bearing Trees/Hills/Vines for Non-Food and Industrial Crops in 2020 The number of bearing tress/hills/vines of non-food and industrial crops declined by 3.7 percent in 2020. From 49,122,724 trees in 2019, it dropped to 47,321,165 trees. Likewise, the reported number of bearing trees/hills/vines of major non-food and industrial crops also decreased by 3.7 percent, from previous year’s figure of 49,072,557 trees to 47,255,437 trees. Meanwhile, the number of bearing trees/hills/vines of priority non-food and industrial crops increased by 31.9 percent. It went up to 64,309 trees in 2020 from 48,748 trees in 2019. Both minor and other non-food and industrial crops had no change in the number of bearing trees/hills/vines with 616 trees and 803 trees, respectively.
A total of 1,520,260.40 metric tons of crops were produced in the province in 2021. This was 0.7 percent higher compared to the previous year’s figure of 1,509,605.07 metric tons.
