The number of live births accounted for the second quarter of 2023 registered a total of 12,952. This showed an increase of 3.1 percent from 12,563 live births in the second quarter of 2022. This gave a daily average occurrence of 141 babies or 6 babies every hour. There were more male babies (6,666 or 51.5 percent) than female babies (6,286 or 48.5 percent) during this period, resulting in a sex ratio of birth of 112 males for every 100 females. City of Calamba had the registered live births at 2,915 which accounts for 22.5 percent of the total. This was followed by Santa Cruz with 1,482 births, 11.4 percent and City of Biñan and San Pablo City with both have 1,403 births or 10.8 percent respectively. On the other hand, municipalities of Rizal and Paete had the lowest number of births with 11 and 18 registered births, respectively. These showed 0.1 percent both of the total live births for the second quarter of 2023. Figure 1. Those who were born twins registered at 1.0 percent of the total births. Table 1. Number of Registered Live Births by Type of Birth, Laguna: Second Quarter 2023   Less than half of those born in the second quarter of 2023 were legitimate (4,117 or 31.8 percent of the total). The illegitimate, on the other hand, comprised 8,835 live births or 68.2 percent. Figure 2. It was followed by midwives with 3,624 live births or 28.0 percent. Services of traditional hilot comprised 14.7 percent with 1,898 live births. Figure 3.
