QUEZON PROVINCE IS THE SECOND TOP PALAY PRODUCER INCALABARZON FOR THE THIRD QUARTER OF 2019 Quezon was the second top palay producing province in CALABARZON in the third quarter of 2019. It produced 9,217 metric tons of palay comprising 29.0 percent of the total regional output of 31,837 metric tons. Laguna was the top palay producer in the region with 30.8 percent share (9,815 MT). Batangas with 23.1 percent share (7,356 MT) followed by Cavite with 14.5 percent share (4,619 MT) and Rizal with 2.6 percent share (830 MT). QUEZON PROVINCE IS THE TOP CORN PRODUCER IN CALABARZON FOR THE THIRD QUARTER OF 2019 Quezon produced 11,442 metric tons of corn during the third quarter of 2019. It remains as the top producer of corn in CALABARZON region accounting for 51.0 percent of the region’s total production of 22,428 metric tons. Batangas followed with 7,978.5 metric tons (35.6%), then Cavite with 1,194.6 metric tons (5.3%). Laguna contributed 1,121.7 metric tons (5.0%), while Rizal has the total share of 691.5 metric tons (3.1%). CORN PRODUCTION Corn production in Quezon decreased by 23.3 percent with 11,442 metric tons in the third quarter of 2019 from the 14,920 metric tons produced in the same period of 2018. By crop type, white corn production was 1,895 metric tons. This figure was 33.5 percent lower than the produced in the same quarter of 2018 at 2,850 metric tons. Likewise, the production of yellow corn at 9,547 metric tons was down by 20.9 percent compared to the 12,070 metric tons produced in the third quarter of 2018. AREA HARVESTED The area harvested for corn in Quezon during the third quarter of 2019 was estimated at 4,468 hectares. This was 20.1 percent lower than the recorded 5,594 hectares during the same quarter of 2018. By crop type, harvest area for white corn was 2,203 hectares, lower by 13.1 percent than the harvest area during the third quarter of 2018 at 2,536 hectares. Similarly, the harvest area for yellow corn went down by 25.9 percent during the reference quarters.
