
Fruit Crops Production
A total of 48,654.42 metric tons of fruit crops was produced in the province in 2023. It went down by 8.1 percent from 52,927.63 metric tons in 2022.

Major Fruit Crops
The province produced a total of 40,958.95 metric tons of fruits under major classification in 2023. It decreased by 9.8 percent from previous year’s level of 45,422.08 metric tons.

Of the major fruit crops, banana contributed almost two-thirds to the total production with 70.8 percent. It was followed by mango, calamansi and pineapple with 15.0 percent, 9.3 percent and 4.8 percent, respectively.

Banana production in 2023 was 29,007.72 metric tons which is lower by 3.2 percent from previous year’s production of 29,965.24 metric tons. Of the total banana production in 2023, saba variety with 20,079.53 metric tons contributed the largest share of 69.2 percent. It was followed by latundan variety with 5,735.23 metric tons production or 19.8 percent share. Lacatan, bungulan and other varieties of banana comprised the remaining 11.0 percent.
There was 3,824.41 metric tons of calamansi produced in 2023. It went down by 52.4 percent from the 2022 level of 8,038.92 metric tons.
In 2023, mango production was 6,142.67 metric tons. It rose by 10.8 percent from 5,542.51 metric tons produced a year ago. Half (50.1%) of the total mango production came from mango carabao variety. It registered a total production of 3,078.46 metric tons. Piko variety had the second largest share of 44.5 percent or 2,735.39 metric tons. Other variety of mango comprised the remaining 5.4 percent of the total mango production during the year.
Pineapple production also increased to 1,984.15 metric tons, higher by 5.8 percent compared to previous year’s level of 1,875.41 metric tons.
Priority Fruit Crops
A total of 5,157.53 metric tons of priority fruits was produced in the province in 2023. It increased by 3.6 percent from previous year’s output of 4,979.75 metric tons.

Papaya contributed 49.5 percent to the total production of priority fruits. It was followed by lanzones with 22.7 percent share. Mandarin and watermelon came next with 14.4 percent and 9.9 percent, respectively.
The remaining 3.6 percent was composed of rambutan, mangosteen, tamarind and orange.
Minor Fruit Crops
In 2023, the province produced a total of 2,509.99 metric tons of minor fruit crops. Prior year’s output of 2,497.93 metric tons was slightly lower by 0.5 percent.

Jackfruit contributed the biggest share of 48.7 percent to the total minor fruit crops production. It was followed by santol and pomelo with 16.7 percent and 15.7 percent share, respectively.
Guayabano (4.21 percent), avocado (4.15 percent) and atis (4.0 percent) came next.
Guava, sineguelas, duhat, chico and starapple comprised the remaining 6.3 percent.
Other Fruit Crops
The province recorded a total production of 27.95 metric tons for other fruits. This production was 0.3 percent higher compared to last year’s production of 27.87 metric tons.
Area Planted/Harvested for Fruit Crops
In 2023, the area planted/harvested for fruit crops was recorded at 13,739.54 hectares. It increased by 231.54 hectares or 1.7 percent from the previous year’s figure of 13,508.00 hectares.

Major fruit crops recorded the highest increment in area planted/harvested in 2023 with 215.36 hectares. It rose to 11,458.36 hectares in 2023 from 11,243.00 hectares in 2022.
An increase was also observed in the area planted/harvested for priority fruit crops with 15.09 hectares. The area planted/harvested for minor fruit crops remained unchanged.
There was a minimal increase in the area planted/harvested for other fruit crops at 32.09 hectares from 31.00 hectares during the previous year.
Number of Bearing Trees/Hills/Vines for Fruit Crops
A total of 3,354,502 bearing trees/hills/vines was recorded for fruit crops in 2023. It rose by 0.6 percent from 3,333,908 trees in 2022.
The reported number of bearing trees/hills/vines for major fruit crops increased by 0.8 percent from the previous year’s figure of 2,913,264 trees to 2,935,192 trees in 2023.

However, the number of bearing trees/hills/vines for priority and minor fruit crops decreased in 2023 by 0.6 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.
In contrast, the number of bearing trees/hills/vines for other fruit crops rose by 2.4 percent in 2023, increasing to 11,366 trees from 2022 figure of 11,097.
