LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION The total volume of livestock production in the province of Quezon in 2022 was posted at 44,815 metric tons. This was lower than the 50,709 metric tons reported a year ago, giving a decrease of 11.6 percent.    Quezon swine production was posted at 31,824 metric tons, a decrement of 14.8 percent from the 37,350 metric tons posted in 2021. Similarly, cattle production showed a decrement of 9.5 percent from 7,943 metric tons to 7,190 metric tons in 2022. In contrast, carabao (4,815 metric tons)  and goat (986 metric tons) production increased by 3.4 percent and 29.9 percent, respectively.    Swine production comprised 71.0 percent of the total livestock production in the province in 2022.   INVENTORY The total livestock inventory in Quezon was registered at 349,549 heads. This was 20.3 percent lower than the previous year inventory of 438,324 heads.   The number of carabao in Quezon province reached 83,455 heads in 2022 increasing by 1.7 percent from 2021. Similarly, the number of goats at 70,363 heads increased by 8.2 percent. In contrast, inventory of swine (135,782 heads) and cattle (59,949 heads) declined by 41.0 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively.    SLAUGHTERED ANIMALS IN SLAUGHTERHOUSES The number of slaughtered livestocks  in slaughterhouses in the province in 2022 was posted at 177,238 heads, an increase of 15.8 percent from the 2021 figure of 153,084 heads. A huge increment of 17.2 percent (24,279 heads) was noted in swine. Slaughtered goats, cattle and carabaos decreased by 11.1 percent, 1.9 percent, and 0.5 percent, respectively compared to previous year.   POULTRY PRODUCTION The total annual chicken production reached 70,564 metric tons, increasing by 4.6 percent compared to 67,465 metric tons in 2021. Similarly, there was a 4.1 percent or 18 metric tons increase in the total duck production during the reference period.   The total chicken eggs production in 2022 posted a huge increment of 3,663 metric tons or an increase of 45.8 percent compared last year. On the other hand, the production of duck eggs recorded a decrement of 1,136 metric tons or 42.3 percent compared to 2021.   CHICKEN INVENTORY In 2022, the total inventory of chicken was 3.05 million birds which declined by 0.9 percent compared to the 3.08 million birds in 2021. Of the total chicken inventory, native chicken comprised 45.2 percent, broilers, 43.2 percent and layers, 11.5 percent.   Broilers and layers decreased by 0.1 percent and 22.03 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, native chicken had an increment of 5.6 percent compared to the 2021 inventory.   NUMBER OF BIRDS DRESSED IN POULTRY DRESSING PLANTS, 2020-2022 The volume of chicken dressed in poultry dressing plants in 2022 increased by 49.9 percent compared to 2021. A total of 34.74 million birds dressed in 2022 was higher by 11.56 million birds from previous year’s data of 23.18 million birds.   DUCK INVENTORY The total inventory of ducks in Quezon was recorded at 202,766 birds in 2022. It decreased by 10.4 percent or 23,514 birds from the previous year. The decrease was attributed to the decline of 17.5 percent or 30,359 birds in commercial duck farms.
