Quezon Province is the Top Palay Producer in CALABARZON for the Fourth Quarter of 2020]   Quezon was the top palay producing province in CALABARZON in the  fourth  quarter of 2020. It produced  67,047  metric  tons  of  palay  comprising  51.7  percent  of  the  total  regional  output  of  129,644  metric tons. Laguna  was the  second  top palay producer in the region  with  24.8  percent share (32,173  MT)  followed by Batangas  with  13.6  percent  share (17,654  MT). Cavite  and Rizal shared 6.0% (7,811 MT) and 3.8% (4,959 MT), respectively.   Palay Production   Palay  production of the province during the fourth quarter of 2020 increased by  48.2  percent compared to the same quarter in 2019 (45,253 metric tons). By ecosystem, palay production in  irrigated farms was  46,373  metric tons. This figure was 17.9 percent higher compared with the 39,335 metric tons produced in the same quarter of 2019. Likewise, production  in  rainfed areas  abruptly increased  by  253.2  percent from 5,806  metric tons recorded in the fourth  quarter of 2019  to 20,507  metric tons in the same period  of 2020.  Production in upland farms  also  went up by 49.1  percent from  112  metric tons posted in the last quarter of 2019 to 167 metric tons produced in the same cropping season of 2020.   Area Harvested   The total harvest area for palay was estimated at 18,334 hectares. It increased by 45.0 percent from 12,643 hectares in the fourth quarter of 2019.    In irrigated palay farms,  harvest area  increased  by  12.2  percent from  10,462  hectares in the fourth  quarter of 2019  to  11,735  hectares in the same period of  2020.  Harvest  area for  rainfed palay farms dramatically increased by 211.1 percent from 2,084 hectares to 6,484 hectares for the same reference period being compared. Moreover, upland farms increased by 18.6 percent from 97 hectares to 115 hectares during the reference quarter.
