SPECIAL RELEASE 2021 VITAL STATISTICS IN BATANGAS: FIRST QUARTER MARRIAGE STATISTICS There was a recorded decreased in registered marriages by 6.75 percent from 3,969 in 2020 to 3,701 in 2021 (Figure 1). The number of registered marriages contracted between 2020 and 2021 of January to March de-creased in most cities/municipalities except for San Pascual reported the highest decrease (53%), followed by Lian (47%) and Calatagan (34%). Lipa City recorded the highest number of reported marriages of 493 which is 13.32 percent of the total marriages in the province in 2021. Cities of Batangas and Tanauan followed with 363 (9.81%) and 271 (7.32%) marriages, respectively. The least number of marriages was recorded in Tingloy at 8 (0.22%). Number of Marriages by Type of Ceremony: First Quarter 2021 Marriages performed through Roman Catholic churches decreased by 23.18 percent in the first quarter compared in the same quarter of previous year. However, marriage rites performed in civil and other religious rites increased from 36.8 percent and 9 percent, respectively. Month of January was recorded the most marriages with 1,405. On the other hand, Tingloy was the least registered marriages for the quarter with only 8 marriages recorded. BIRTH STATISTICS In first quarter, most births occurred in January with 3,628 (35.60 %) of the total births recorded in the province. It was followed by the month of March with 3,562 (34.95%). The month of February had the least number of births in the first quarter. More males (5,217 or 51.19% were born than females 4,975 or 48.81% which resulted in a sex ratio of 105 males per 100 females. Moreover, more than half 5,652 or 55.46% of the total registered births in the first quarter . A decrease from 11,102 in 2020 to 10,192 in 2020 or 8.20 percent in span of one year the number of registered live births. Lipa City recorded with the most number of registered births with 1,619 (15.89 %). It was followed by Batangas City 1,457 (14.30%), Lemery 883 (8.66%), Tanauan City 874 (8.58%) and Balayan 715 (7.02%). On the other hand, 0.13 percent of the total births was registered the least in Sta. Teresita. Births attended by medical professionals in the quarter decreased from 88.89 percent in the first quarter of 2020 to 85.47 in the same quarter of 2021, while traditional birth attendants (TBAs) or “hilots” increased from 4.23 percent in February to 5.46 n the month of March. Municipalities of Lemery recorded the highest percentage increase 8.40 in the first quarter; Balayan 6.60 percent came in next and Bauan 5.97 percent. Meanwhile, Lipa City showed the highest birth deliveries attended by traditional birth attendant (hilot/unlicensed midwife) of 1.67 percent. DEATH STATISTICS Reported deaths in the first quarter reached 5,277. The figure showed an increase of 892 or 20.34 percent higher than the previous year’s 4,385 deaths. In the first quarter, an average of 59 persons died daily. This translates to 59 deaths per hour. The top six cities/municipalities in terms of number of deaths were Batangas with 912 or 17.28 percent of the total deaths. Lipa with 762 (14.44%),Tanauan 365 (6.92), Nasugbu and Sto. Tomas both with 264 (5.00%). Moreover, combined share of these six cities/municipalities was 53.86 percent of the total deaths. On the other hand, the five municipalities which had the least number of deaths were Sta. Teresita (15 or 0.28%), Mataas na Kahoy (28 or 0.53% ), San Nicolas and Tingloy both with (31 or 0.59%, Alitagtag (34 or 0.64%). These numbers accounted for only 2.63 percent of the total deaths in the province and was about ten times lower than that of Batangas City. On the other hand, the five municipalities which had the least number of deaths were Sta. Teresita (15 or 0.28%), Mataas na Kahoy (28 or 0.53%), San Nicolas and Tingloy both with (31 or 0.59%, Alitagtag (34 or 0.64%). These numbers accounted for only 2.63 percent of the total deaths in the province and was about ten times lower than that of Batangas City. From the total registered deaths in Batangas, 59.09 percent (3,118) were attended by health professionals (private physician, public health officer and hospital authority) while 5.65 percent (298) were attended by non health professionals. Meanwhile, reported death cases without any attendant reached to 35.27 percent.
