Volume of Fisheries Production
The total volume of fisheries production in Quezon province during the third Quarter of 2024 was estimated at 16,003.22 metric tons. It increased by 18.8 percent from the 13,465.26 metric tons reported in the same quarter of 2023. This was mainly brought about by the increase in the output from the commercial subsector (100.5%).
Among the subsectors, production from aquaculture contributed the biggest share of 43.2 percent to the total fisheries production during the period. It was followed by the output from commercial fisheries with 29.2 percent. Meanwhile, municipal fisheries shared 27.6 percent.
Commercial Fisheries
Production for commercial fisheries was posted at 4,671.12 metric tons, an increment of 100.5 percent compared to the 2,329.53 metric tons reported in the same quarter in 2023. The top five species that contributed most to the increase in the total production of this subsector were roundscad or galunggong (1,049.00 MT), bigeye tuna or tambakol/bariles (725.19 MT), frigate tuna or tulingan (387.10 MT), yellowfin tuna or tambakol/bariles (184.28 MT), and big-eyed scad or matangbaka (128.18 MT).
Municipal Fisheries
Municipal fisheries production was registered at 4,417.74 metric tons in the third quarter of 2024, higher by 1,489.51 MT compared to the same quarter’s output of 2,928.23 metric tons in the previous year. Of this total volume of production, marine municipal fisheries accounted for 99.7 percent while the rest were caught from inland bodies of water.
The volume of production for marine municipal fisheries resulted to a 50.7 percent increase from 2,924.34 metric tons in the third quarter of 2023 to 4,406.18 metric tons in the same quarter of 2024. The leading species that contributed to the increase in the volume of production comprising marine municipal fisheries were noted in spanish mackerel or tanigue (298.92 MT), frigate tuna or tulingan (218.10 MT), yellowfin tuna or tambakol/bariles (204.97 MT), bigeye tuna or tambakol/bariles (183.62 MT), and threadfin bream or bisugo (124.45 MT).
Inland municipal fisheries production during the third quarter of 2024 was recorded at 11.56 metric tons, higher by 7.67 MT or 197.2 percent from its 2023 same quarter production of 3.89 metric tons. The top species contributing to the incline of the total volume of inland municipal fisheries production was mainly attributed to tilapia (7.63 MT), mud crab or alimango (0.59 MT), and blue crab or alimasag (0.43 MT).
Aquaculture
Aquaculture fisheries production for the third quarter of 2024 decreased to 6,914.37 metric tons from 8,207.49 metric tons during the same period in 2023. The decrease in the total aquaculture production was mostly attributed to the decrease in milkfish (1,329.34 MT) harvested from brackishwater fishpond. Similarly, production of mud crab declined by 45.94 MT, from 253.00 metric tons to 207.07 metric tons.
