Volume of Fisheries Production
The total volume of fisheries production in Quezon province during the second Quarter of 2024 was estimated at 15,284.68 metric tons. It increased by 37.6 percent from the 11,110.00 metric tons reported in the same quarter of 2023. The increment was mainly brought about by the increase in the output from the municipal subsector (221.7%).

Among the subsectors, production from municipal fisheries contributed the biggest share of 66.9 percent to the total fisheries production during the period. It was followed by the output from commercial fisheries with 26.9 percent. Meanwhile, aquaculture fisheries shared 6.2 percent.

Commercial Fisheries
Production for commercial fisheries was posted at 4,115.30 metric tons, an increment of 43.6 percent compared to the 2,865.36 metric tons reported in the same quarter in 2023. The top five species that contributed most to the increase in the total production of this subsector were roundscad or galunggong (1,001.56 MT), bigeye tuna or tambakol/bariles (530.57 MT), snapper or maya-maya (181.26 MT), eastern little tuna or bonito (129.76 MT), and bali sardinella or tamban (53.20 MT).

Municipal Fisheries
Municipal fisheries production was registered at 10,223.06 metric tons in the second quarter of 2024, higher by 7,045.07 MT compared to the same quarter’s output of 3,177.99 metric tons in the previous year. Of this total volume of municipal fisheries production, marine municipal fisheries accounted for 99.9 percent while the rest were caught from inland bodies of water.

The volume of production for marine municipal fisheries resulted to a 221.9 percent increase from 3,174.03 metric tons in the same quarter of 2023 to  10,216.20 metric tons this quarter of 2024. The leading species that contributed to the increase in the volume of production comprising marine municipal fisheries were noted in goatfish or saramulyete (4,652.44 MT), bigeye tuna or tambakol/bariles (2,635.60 MT), yellowfin tuna or tambakol/bariles (1,019.03 MT),  threadfin bream or bisugo (86.93 MT), and hairtail or espada (39.41 MT).

Inland municipal fisheries production during the second quarter of 2024 was recorded at 6.86 metric tons, higher by 2.91 MT or 73.5 percent from its 2023 same quarter production of 3.95 metric tons. The top species contributing to the increase in the total volume of inland municipal fisheries production was mainly attributed to mud crab or alimango (4.77 MT), blue crab or alimasag (0.73 MT), and endeavor prawn or suahe (0.66 MT).

Aquaculture
Aquaculture fisheries production for the second quarter of 2024 decreased to 946.32 metric tons from 5,066.65 metric tons during the same period in 2023. The increase in the total aquaculture production was mostly attributed to the decrease in milkfish (3,946.30 MT) harvested from marine cage and brackish water fishpond. Similarly, production of seaweed declined by 176.10 MT, from 187.16 metric tons to 11.06 metric tons.
