The number of live births for the month of May 2023 registered a total of 4,639. This showed an increase of 9.6 percent from 4,231 live births in May 2022. This gave a daily average occurrence of 150 babies or 6 babies every hour. There were more male babies (2,362 or 50.9 percent) than female babies 2,277 or 49.1 percent) during this period, resulting in a sex ratio of birth of 104 males for every 100 females. City of Calamba had the highest recorded number of live births at 958 which accounts for 20.7 percent of the total. This was followed by Santa Cruz with 557 births and City of San Pablo with 538 births or 12.0 percent and 11.6 percent, respectively. On the other hand, municipalities of Rizal and Paete had the lowest number of births 4 and 6 registered births, respectively. These showed 0.1 percent and 0.1 percent of the total live births for the month of May 2023.   Figure 1. Number of Registered Live Births by City/Municipality in Laguna: May 2023   Single babies born during the month constitute 98.2 percent by type of live births and who were born twins registered at 1.2 percent of the total births. Table 1. Number of Registered Live Births by Type of Birth in Laguna: May 2023   Less than half of those born in May 2023 were legitimate (1,545 or 33.3 percent of the total). The illegitimate, on the other hand, comprised 3,094 live births or 66.7 percent. Figure 2. It was followed by midwives with 1,238 live births or 26.7 percent. Services of traditional hilot comprised 14.3 percent with 663 live births. Figure 3.
