Special Release on Vital Statistics Report: May 2023 Marriages in Laguna (Preliminary Results)

The number of marriages for the month of May 2023 registered a total of 1,024. This showed a decrease of 13.9 percent from 1,189 marriages in May 2022. On average, 33 marriages a day occurred in May 2023. Among the cities/municipalities in Laguna, the City of Calamba had the highest recorded number of marriages with 243 couples. It comprised of 23.7 percent of the total marriages. It was followed by the City of San Pablo with 135 (13.2 percent) and City of San Pedro with 92 (9.0 percent) marriages, respectively. On the other hand, the municipality of Rizal recorded the least with only 4 (0.4 percent) marriages. Figure 1. Number of Registered Marriages by City/Municipality in Laguna: May 2023 By type of ceremony, marriages solemnized under Civil Rites showed the largest proportion with 480 or 46.9 percent of the total marriages in Laguna. Ranked second was marriages under Roman Catholic with 282 or 27.5 percent followed by marriages solemnized under Other Religious Rites with 261 or 25.5 percent. However, one (1) was officiated under Muslim and none under Tribal rites. Figure 2. Number of Registered Marriages by Type of Ceremony in Laguna: May 2023 In ordinary marriage, or a marriage requiring a marriage license, the time for submission of the Certificate of Marriage to the concerned Local Civil Registry Office is within fifteen (15) days following the solemnization of marriage while in marriages exempt from license requirement, the prescribed period is thirty (30) days. A report beyond the reglementary period is considered late. Figure 3 shows that most of the marriages in May 2023 were timely registered with 1,005 or 98 percent. Figure 3. Number of Registered Marriages by Status of Registration in Laguna: May 2023 Most marriage rites in May 2023 were officiated in the Office of the Mayor, Judge, etc. with 440 marriages or 43 percent of the total followed by church weddings with 396 marriages or 38.7 percent.
