Number of Deaths… There were 1,163 registered deaths in Quezon in April 2023. It recorded a decrease of 9.6 percent from the previous month’s figure of 1,286. The daily average of death occurrences during the month was 39 or approximately two deaths per hour.   Deaths by Sex… There were more male deaths (638 or 54.9%) than female deaths (525 or 45.1%) registered during the month. The death sex ratio was calculated at 122 males for every 100 females in April 2023.   Deaths by Age-group… Majority of the death occurrences belonged to age group 60 and over with a total of 698. This comprised more than half or 60.0 percent of the total deaths recorded for the month. Age group 55-59 years old registered the next highest death toll which accounted for 88 or 7.6 percent.   Infant Deaths… Infant deaths totaled 44 or 3.8 percent of the total mortality.  Infant deaths were higher for males (23) than females (21) giving an infant death sex ratio of 110 males for every 100 females.   Deaths by Place of Occurrence and Usual Place of Residence… Lucena City recorded the most number of deaths at 311 or 26.7 percent. This may be explained by its large population and the health facilities available in the city. The municipality of Candelaria (107 or 9.2%) came next in terms of highest number of death occurrences. It was followed by Sariaya (62 or 5.3%) and Infanta (59 or 5.1%). There were 202 deaths that occurred outside the usual place of residence of the deceased. Lucena City recorded the highest number of deaths (155) that occurred outside the usual residence of the deceased. It was followed by Infanta (14), Candelaria (11), Lopez and Unisan (both with 7). Majority of the rest of the municipalities and city of the province registered higher number of deaths by usual residence than the number of deaths by place of occurrence.   Leading Causes of Deaths (8 days old over)… There were 1,145 registered deaths among those aged 8 days and over.  Of this total, 237 (20.7%) cases were due to diseases of the heart while  hypertensive diseases accounted for 138 or 12.1 percent.   Cerebrovascular diseases caused 81 (7.1%) deaths, pneumonia caused 67 (5.9%) while diabetes mellitus caused 52 (4.5%) deaths.   Maternal Deaths… There was no maternal death recorded for the month of April 2023.     (SGD.) There were 1,198 registered deaths in Quezon in February 2024. It recorded a decrease of 22.4 percent from the previous month’s figure of 1,543.
