The number of live births for the month of April 2023 registered a total of 3,582. This showed a decrease of 6.5 percent from 3,831 live births in April 2022. This gave a daily average occurrence of 119 babies or 5 babies every hour. There were more male babies (1,894 or 52.9 percent) than female babies 1,688 or 47.1 percent) during this period, resulting in a sex ratio of birth of 112 males for every 100 females. Figure 1. Number of Registered Live Births by City/Municipality in Laguna: April 2023 City of Calamba had the highest recorded number of live births at 798 which accounts for 22.3 percent of the total. This was followed by Santa Cruz with 405 births and City of Biñan with 396 births or 11.1 percent and 11.0 percent, respectively. On the other hand, municipalities of Rizal and Paete had the lowest number of births 5 and 6 registered births, respectively. These showed 0.1 percent and 0.2 percent of the total live births for the month of April 2023.   Single babies born during the month constitute 99.2 percent by type of live births and who were born twins registered at 0.8 percent of the total births. Table 1. Number of Registered Live Births by Type of Birth in Laguna: April 2023   Less than half of those born in April 2023 were legitimate (1,151 or 32.1 percent of the total). The illegitimate, on the other hand, comprised 2,431 live births or 67.9 percent. Figure 2. Percentage of Registered Live Birth by Legitimacy Status in Laguna: April 2023   In terms of attendant at birth, almost half of the live births (2,068 or 57.7 percent) were attended by physicians. It was followed by midwives with 1,030 live births or 28.8 percent. Services of traditional hilot comprised 12.3 percent with 440 live births. Figure 3.
