This report presents statistics on marriages registered in Laguna for the month of February 2023. The data presented herein were obtained from the documents submitted by the Local Civil Registrars to the PSA Provincial Office and then processed thru the DVSS2K system. Caution must be employed in interpreting the data since the figures were not adjusted in consideration of under registration.   Figure 1. Number of Registered Marriages by City/Municipality in Laguna: February 2023 The number of marriages for the month of February 2023 registered a total of 1,100. This showed an increase of 17.9 percent from 933 marriages in February 2022. On average, 35 marriages a day occurred in February 2023. Among the cities/municipalities in Laguna, the City of Biñan had the highest recorded number of marriages with 144 couples. It comprised of 13.1 percent of the total marriages. It was followed by the City of San Pedro with 120 (10.9 percent) and the City of Santa Rosa with 116 (10.5 percent) marriages, respectively. On the other hand, the municipality of Kalayaan recorded the least with only 4 (0.4 percent) marriages.   Figure 2. Number of Registered Marriages by Type of Ceremony in Laguna: February 2023   By type of ceremony, marriages solemnized under Civil Rites showed the largest proportion with 668 or 60.7 percent of the total marriages in Laguna. Ranked second was marriages under Roman Catholic with 192 or 17.5 percent followed by marriages solemnized under Other Religious Rites with 240 or 21.8 percent. However, none were officiated under Muslim and Tribal rites.   Figure 3. Number of Registered Marriages by Status of Registration in Laguna: February 2023 Figure 3 shows that most of the marriages in February 2023 were timely registered with 1,070 or 97 percent. In ordinary marriage, or a marriage requiring a marriage license, the time for submission of the Certificate of Marriage to the concerned Local Civil Registry Office is within fifteen (15) days following the solemnization of marriage while in marriages exempt from license requirement, the prescribed period is thirty (30) days. A report beyond the reglementary period is considered late.   Figure 4. Number of Registered Marriages by Place of Ceremony in Laguna: February 2023 Most marriage rites in February 2023 were officiated in the Office of the Mayor, Judge, etc. with 485 marriages or 44.1 percent of the total followed by church weddings with 326 marriages or 29.6 percent.   Technical Notes   Vital statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register. Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual’s entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records. The reference period of this special release is the whole month of February 2023.  This release contains statistical tables and graphs encompassing the vital event - marriages occurring in the province of Laguna.  For the interpretation of data, caution is necessary since the information presented is not adjusted for under registration.     MAGDALENA T.
