Commercial Fisheries Commercial fishermen unloaded 917.48 metric tons of fish catch this quarter or 187.89 metric tons over last year’s level. The growth could be attributed to additional number of fishing boats unloading coming from the provinces of Quezon and Occidental Mindoro. In addition, one fishing vessel was added in Nasugbu. Landing Centers with increment production were Wawa, Nasugbo; San Piro, Balayan; Balombato, Calatagan and Anilao, Mabini. It contributed 9.68 percent in the total fisheries of the province. Municipal Fisheries Municipal fisheries produced a total of 1,814.14 metric tons this first quarter of 2022 or 167.88 metric tons lower than the output of 2021. Shortage in fish catch was attributed to decrease fishing days due to strong winds and rough seas, inability of fishermen to continue fishing operation due to few catch but high production cost and also, for inland municipal, limited number of fishing activity as per advised of LGU caused by active status of Taal Volcano which was under alert level 3. Aquaculture Fisheries The aquaculture sector indexed a negative growth at 47.88 percent. During the period, all aquaculture sectors exhibited decreasing trends. Aquaculture accounted for 71.18 percent of total fisheries production in Batangas.
