Two surveys that involve business establishments in Quezon province are underway as the Philippine Statistics Authority- Quezon (PSA Quezon) sets the stage for the conduct of the nationwide 2017 Annual Survey on Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) and the 2017 Survey on Information Communication and Technology (SICT).   The PSA is conducting the 2017 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) in order to collect and generate information on the levels, structure, performance and trends of economic activities of the formal sector of the Philippine economy for the year 2017.  This survey generates essential statistics that can be used as bases upon which the government and the private sector can formulate policies and evolve economic development plans. The total number of sample establishments in the province to be surveyed by PSA Quezon for the 2017 ASPBI is 256 out of the 31,347 samples in the whole Philippines.   Specifically, the objectives of the 2017 ASPBI include the following: Collect and generate detailed information on employment, income, expense, inventories, tangible fixed assets, intangible assets and total assets of the establishments; Generate indicators such as value added, labor productivity, average compensation and others necessary to evaluate the performance of industries at the national and regional levels;  Generate data for Business Process Management (BPM) activities Generate micro, small and medium establishments/enterprises (MSME) data using total employment; and Gather information for the improvement of the list of establishments and enterprises.    In addition, PSA Quezon as a rider to the 2017 ASPBI, will also collect data in relation to the 2017 Survey on Information Communication and Technology (SICT), a survey which aims to collect and generate information on the availability, distribution and access/utilization of ICT among establishments in the country. The measurement of ICT access and use will enable the assessment and monitoring of the digital divide in the country. Furthermore, the survey will generate core ICT indicators important for measuring the progress in information and communication technology.      The data collected from the 2017 SICT will be valuable in measuring progress in information communication technology in the country. This will help decision-makers in both public and private sectors in developing policy measures and in making investment in ICT.    The total number of sample establishments in the province to be surveyed by PSA Quezon for the 2017 SICT  is 84 out of the 9,543 samples in the whole Philippines.   Provincial Statistics Officer Airene A. Pucyutan of PSA-Quezon encourages owners and managers of establishments/enterprises in Quezon province who were chosen as respondents of ASPBI and ULE to participate in the said surveys.    PSA- Quezon is authorized to collect information from businesses and industries under Republic Act No. 10625. Section 27 of the law obliges the establishments to provide required data. The information collected shall be kept strictly confidential and shall not be used for purposes of taxation, investigation or regulation as provided under Article 55 of the Implementing Rules and Regulation of RA 10625.   Related to this, a Stakeholder’s Forum to be held on 25 April 2018 in Lucena City will be conducted by PSA Quezon to provide target respondents a broader perspective and better appreciation of the ASPBI.
