The headline inflation in Laguna decrease to 3.0 percent in October 2023 from 3.4 percent in September 2023. Moreover, this is lower than the recorded inflation rate in the same month of October 2022 at 5.2 percent. The average inflation rate for the twelve months of the year stood at 4.3 percent. (Table A and Figure 1)

The slow down of province’s inflation was primarily due to the lower annual increment recorded in the indices of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages at 5.0 percent from in October 2023 from 6.7 percent in September 2023; Restaurant and Accommodation Services at 3.2 percent from 4.0 percent; Personal Care and Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 3.3 percent from 3.7 percent; Clothing and Footwear at 1.8 percent from 1.9 percent; Furnishing, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance at 0.9 percent from 1.0 percent; and Recreation, Sport and Culture at 2.6 percent from 2.7 percent. Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco 8.2 percent from 8.1 percent; and Education Services at -3.3 percent from -1.5 percent.
Meanwhile, increase on inflation was recorded in the indices of Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 5.7 percent from 4.2; Health at 1.8 percent from 1.7 percent; and Transport at -4.4 percent from -5.0 percent.
The rest of the commodity groups either retained their previous month’s inflation rates or had zero percent annual growths. (Table B)

The slow down in inflation for Food Index was mainly brought by Rice at 10.6 percent in October 2023 from 11.2 percent in September 2023; Vegetables, Tubers, Cooking Bananas and Pulses at 16.3 percent from 42.9 percent; Milk and Other Dairy Products and Eggs at 6.7 percent 2023 from 7.8 percent; Fish and Other Seafood at 2.2 percent from 2.3 percent; Sugar, Confectionery and Desserts at 7.2 percent from 9.1 percent; Ready-Made Food and Other Food Products N.E.C at 4.1 percent from 5.0 percent; and Flour Bread and Other Bakery Products at 4.8 percent from 5.5 percent.
Meanwhile, increase in inflation was observed in the indices of Fruits and Nuts at 8.9 percent in October 2023 from 8.5 percent in September 2023; Oils and Fats at -0.9 percent from -2.6 percent; Meat and Other Slaughtered Land Animals at -1.6 percent from -1.2 percent; and Corn at 8.1 percent from 5.8 percent.
