Fruit Crops Production in 2022 
A total of 52,927.63 metric tons of fruit crops was produced in the province in 2022. It went up by 5.6 percent from 50,126.53 metric tons in 2021.

Major Fruit Crops 
The province produced a total of 45,422.08 metric tons of fruits under major classification in 2022. It increased by 6.8 percent from previous year’s level of 42,515.65 metric tons.

Of the major fruit crops, banana contributed more than half to the total production with 66.0 percent. It was followed by calamansi, mango and pineapple with 17.7 percent, 12.2 percent and 4.1 percent, respectively.

Banana production in 2022 was 29,965.24 metric tons which is higher by 9.3 percent from previous year’s production of 27,404.47 metric tons. Of the total banana production in 2022, saba variety with 20,770.14 metric tons contributed the largest share of 69.3 percent. It was followed by latundan variety with 5,933.88 metric tons production or 19.8 percent share. Lacatan, bungulan and other varieties of banana comprised the remaining 10.9 percent.

There was 8,038.92 metric tons of calamansi produced in 2022. It went up by 5.5 percent from the 2021 level of 7,618.95 metric tons.

In 2022, mango production was 5,542.51 metric tons. It dropped by 4.9 percent from 5,829.80 metric tons produced a year ago. More than half (51.7%) of the total mango production came from mango carabao variety. It registered a total production of 2,864.66 metric tons. Piko variety had the second largest share of 45.2 percent or 2,507.39 metric tons. Other variety of mango comprised the remaining 3.1 percent of the total mango output in 2022.

Pineapple production in 2022 increased to 1,875.41 metric tons, higher by 12.8 percent compared to previous year’s level of 1,662.43 metric tons.

Priority Fruit Crops 
A total of 4,979.75 metric tons of priority fruits was produced in the province in 2022. It decreased by 3.1 percent from previous year’s output of 5,139.75 metric tons.

Papaya contributed more than half (50.3 percent) to the total production of priority fruits. It was followed by lanzones with 21.0 percent share. Mandarin and watermelon came next with 14.2 percent and 11.4 percent, respectively.

The remaining 3.1 percent was composed of rambutan, mangosteen, tamarind and orange.

Orange production recorded the least percentage share of only 0.04 percent.

Minor Fruit Crops 
In 2022, the province produced a total of 2,497.93 metric tons of minor fruit crops. Prior year’s output of 2,439.86 metric tons rose slightly by 2.4 percent during the year.

Jackfruit contributed the biggest share of 48.7 percent to the total minor fruit crops production. It was followed by santol and pomelo with 16.4 percent and 15.5 percent share, respectively.

Atis (4.7 percent) and guayabano (4.4 percent) came next.

Avocado, guava, sineguelas, duhat, chico and starapple comprised the remaining 10.2 percent.

Other Fruit Crops 
The province recorded a total production of 27.87 metric tons for other fruits. This production was 10.9 percent lower compared to last year’s production of 31.27 metric tons.

Area Planted/Harvested for Fruit Crops in 2022 
In 2022, the area planted/harvested for fruit crops was recorded at 13,508.00 hectares. It decreased by 15.75 hectares or 0.1 percent from the previous year’s figure of 13,523.75 hectares.

Major fruit crops recorded the highest increment in area planted/harvested in 2022 with 4.00 hectares. It rose to 11,243.00 hectares in 2022 from 11,239.00 hectares in 2021.

Minimal increase was observed in the area planted/harvested for priority fruit crops with 1.00 hectare. The area planted for other fruit crops was 31.00 hectares. 

Area planted/harvested for minor fruit crops slightly decreased in 2022 at 1,622.00 hectares from 1,622.50 hectares during the previous year.

Number of Bearing Trees/Hills/Vines for Fruit Crops in 2022 
A total of 3,333,908 bearing trees/hills/vines was recorded for fruit crops in 2022. It declined by 0.1 percent from 3,335,727 trees in 2021.

The reported number of bearing trees/hills/vines of major fruit crops remained unchanged at 2,913,264.

The number of bearing trees/hills/vines of priority and minor fruit crops also remained steady in 2022 at 230,880 and 178,667, respectively.

In contrast, the number of bearing trees/hills/vines of other fruit crops decreased by 14.1 percent in 2022. It went down to 11,907 trees during the year from 2021 figure of 12,916.
