The number of marriages for the month of March 2023 registered a total of 1,432. This showed a decrease of 1.7 percent from 1,457 marriages in March 2022. On average, 46 marriages a day occurred in March 2023. Among the cities/municipalities in Laguna, the City of Calamba had the highest recorded number of marriages with 186 couples. It comprised of 13 percent of the total marriages. It was followed by the City of Cabuyao and City of Santa Rosa, both with 154 marriages (10.8 percent), respectively. Figure 1. Number of Registered Marriages by City/Municipality in Laguna: March 2023 On the other hand, the municipality of Pangil recorded the least with only 1 (0.1 percent) marriage.   Figure 2. Number of Registered Marriages by Type of Ceremony in Laguna: March 2023   By type of ceremony, marriages solemnized under Civil Rites showed the largest proportion with 938 or 65.5 percent of the total marriages in Laguna. Ranked second was marriages under Other Religious Rites with 254 or 17.7 percent followed by marriages solemnized under Roman Catholic with 240 or 16.8 percent. However, none were officiated under Muslim and Tribal rites.   Figure 3. Number of Registered Marriages by Status of Registration in Laguna: March 2023 Figure 3 shows that most of the marriages in March 2023 were timely registered with 1,410 or 98 percent. In ordinary marriage, or a marriage requiring a marriage license, the time for submission of the Certificate of Marriage to the concerned Local Civil Registry Office is within fifteen (15) days following the solemnization of marriage while in marriages exempt from license requirement, the prescribed period is thirty (30) days. A report beyond the reglementary period is considered late.   Figure 4. Number of Registered Marriages by Place of Ceremony in Laguna: March 2023   Most marriage rites in March 2023 were officiated in the Office of the Mayor, Judge, etc. with 772 marriages or 53.9 percent of the total followed by church weddings with 375 marriages or 26.2 percent.   Technical Notes Vital statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register. Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual’s entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records. The reference period of this special release is the whole month of March 2023. This release contains statistical tables and graphs encompassing the vital event - marriages occurring in the province of Laguna.
