Special Release on Vital Statistics Report: March 2023 Deaths in Laguna (Preliminary Results)

The number of deaths for the month of March 2023 reached a total of 1,687. This shows an increase by 7.0 percent from 1,576 deaths in March 2022. There was a daily average occurrence of 54 deaths or about 2 persons died per hour during this period. More male deaths (948 or 56.2 percent) than female deaths (739 or 43.8 percent) during this period, resulting in a sex ratio of death of 128 males for every 100 females. City of Calamba shows the highest recorded number of registered deaths at which accounts to 15.7 percent or 265 of the total number of deaths in the province. This was followed by City of San Pablo with 199 deaths or 11.8 percent and Santa Cruz with 185 deaths or 11.0 percent registered during the month. Figure 1. Number of Registered Deaths by City/Municipality and by Sex, Laguna: March 2023 On the other hand, municipalities of Kalayaan and Pangil, had the lowest number with 5 and 6 registered deaths, respectively. These shows 0.3 and 0.4 percent shares of the total deaths for the month of March 2023. Table 1. Number of Registered Deaths by Age, Laguna: March 2023 Table 1 shows the distribution of death by age on both sexes of which years completed had the highest death rate of 97.0 percent. Figure 2. Percent Distribution of Registered Deaths by Sex, Laguna: March 2023 More male deaths than female deaths recorded The number of male deaths (948 or 56.2 percent share) was higher than female deaths (739 or 43.8 percent share) in March 2023. Figure 3. Percent Distribution of Attendant at Death, Laguna: March 2023 Attendant refers to a private physician, public health officer, hospital authority, or any other allied health care provider who provided medical attendance to the deceased at the time of death. Out of 1,687 registered deaths, 1,169 or 69.3 percent of deaths were attended by public health officer. It was followed by private physicians with 485 deaths or 28.7 percent. Services of hospital authority comprised 0.1 percent with 2 registered deaths. Explanatory Note This report presents statistics on deaths that was registered in Laguna for the month of March year 2023. The data presented herein were obtained from the documents submitted by the Local Civil Registrars to the PSA Provincial Office and then processed thru DVSS2K system.
