Special Release on Vital Statistics Report: January 2023 Marriages in Laguna (Preliminary Result)

The number of marriages for the month of January 2023 registered a total of 1,180. This showed an increase of 19.2 percent from 990 marriages in January 2022. On average, 38 marriages a day occurred in January 2023. Among the cities/municipalities in Laguna, the municipality of Los Baños had the highest recorded number of marriages with 154 couples. It comprised of 13.1 percent of the total marriages. It was followed by the City of Calamba with 137 (11.6 percent) and the City of San Pedro with 130 (11 percent) marriages, respectively. On the other hand, the municipality of Famy recorded the least with only 3 (0.5 percent) marriages. Figure 1. Number of Registered Marriages by City/Municipality in Laguna: January 2023 By type of ceremony, marriages solemnized under Civil Rites showed the largest proportion with 550 or 46.6 percent of the total marriages in Laguna. Ranked second was marriages under Roman Catholic with 323 or 27.4 percent followed by marriages solemnized under Other Religious Rites with 307 or 26.0 percent. However, none were officiated under Muslim and Tribal rites. Figure 2. Number of Registered Marriages by Type of Ceremony in Laguna: January 2023 Figure 3 shows that most of the marriages in January 2023 were timely registered with 1,151 or 98 percent. In ordinary marriage, or a marriage requiring a marriage license, the time for submission of the Certificate of Marriage to the concerned Local Civil Registry Office is within fifteen (15) days following the solemnization of marriage while in marriages exempt from license requirement, the prescribed period is thirty (30) days. A report beyond the reglementary period is considered late. Figure 3. Number of Registered Marriages by Status of Registration in Laguna: January 2023 Most marriage rites in January 2023 were officiated in the Office of the Mayor, Judge, etc. with 547 marriages or 46.4 percent of the total followed by church weddings with 463 marriages or 39.2 percent. Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual’s entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records. The reference period of this special release is the whole month of January 2023. This release contains statistical tables and graphs encompassing the vital event - marriages occurring in the province of Laguna. For the interpretation of data, caution is necessary since the information presented is not adjusted for under registration.
