The headline inflation in Batangas Province accelerated to 8.3 percent in September 2022 from 7.7 percent in August 2022. This is the highest recorded inflation since October 2019. With this month’s inflation, Batangas average inflation from January to September 2022 stood at 6.1 percent. In September 2021, inflation rate was observed at 5.7 percent. The acceleration in the province inflation rate in September 2022 was primarily due to the higher annual growth rate in the index for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 9.9 percent from 9.4 percent as compared from previous month. This was followed by transport with 22.3 percent annual growth from 19.1 percent in August 2022. Also contributing to the uptrend in the overall inflation in September 2022 were the higher annual increases in the indices of the following commodity groups: a. Clothing and Footwear, 4.2 percent b. Furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance, 5.6 percent c. Information and communication, 0.6 percent d. Recreation, Sports and Culture, 2.2 percent e. Restaurants and accommodation services, 7.8 percent
