The headline inflation or overall inflation in Quezon province increased to 2.5 percent in May 2025, from 2.1 percent in April 2025. This brings the average inflation rate of the province from January to May 2025 to 3.6 percent. Moreover, the inflation rate in May 2024 was higher, at 4.5 percent.

The increase in overall inflation for May 2025 was mainly due to the higher index of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, which rose to 1.1 percent during the month from 0.1 percent in April 2025.

Moreover, the following commodity groups also contributed to the uptrend during the month: 
a. Food and non-alcoholic beverages at 3.8 percent, from 3.7 percent; 
b. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 6.0 percent, from 5.3 percent; 
c. Clothing and footwear at 1.1 percent, from 0.9 percent; 
d. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at 2.3 percent, from 2.2 percent; 
e. Health at 1.3 percent, from 1.1 percent; 
f. Information and communication at 0.9 percent, from 0.8 percent; 
g. Recreation, sport and culture at 1.0 percent, from 0.7 percent; 
h. Restaurants and accommodation services at 5.8 percent, from 5.1 percent; and 
i. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 2.3 percent, from 1.9 percent.

In contrast, the transport group recorded a lower inflation rate during the month, at -4.9 percent, from -4.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the following commodity groups retained their annual rates from the previous month: 
a. Education services at 3.0 percent; and 
b. Financial services at 0.0 percent.

Food inflation in Quezon province slightly increased to 3.9 percent in May 2025, from 3.8 percent in April 2025. In May 2024, food inflation was higher at 7.5 percent.

The increase in food inflation in May 2025 was primarily due to the higher year-on-year increase in the fish and other seafood index, which went up from 5.2 percent in the previous month to 7.8 percent during the month.

In addition, higher annual growth rates were observed in the following food groups during the month: 
a. Flour, bread and other bakery products, pasta products, and other cereals at 1.3 percent, from 1.1 percent; 
b. Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals at 14.5 percent, from 12.5 percent; 
c. Milk, other dairy products and eggs at 9.4 percent, from 9.3 percent; 
d. Oils and fats at 33.7 percent, from 24.5 percent; 
e. Fruits and nuts at 15.8 percent, from 10.2 percent; 
f. Sugar, confectionery and desserts at -3.6 percent, from -3.8 percent; and 
g. Ready-made food and other food products not elsewhere classified at 1.8 percent, from 1.4 percent.

On the contrary, slower annual growth rates during the month were observed in the indices of the following food groups: 
a. Rice at -9.3 percent, from -5.5 percent; and 
b. Corn at -1.6 percent, from 1.8 percent.

Meanwhile, the index of vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses retained its annual rate of 4.7 percent from the previous month.
