The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Quezon Provincial Statistical Office is currently conducting the 2025 National Migration Survey (NMS) that will run until 05 September 2025. This survey is being conducted by nine (9) hired statistical researchers (SR) and will cover 645 sample households/housing units across 17 sample municipalities and cities in the province.
The NMS aims to provide information on the mobility of the Philippine population in order to assist policymakers and program managers in evaluating and designing strategies for improving services and assistance to people abroad or moving within the country. The PSA Board approved on 16 February 2024 the conduct of the NMS every 10 years, starting in 2025, as stated in PSA Board Resolution No. 16 Series of 2024.
The authority and mandate of the PSA to conduct the 2025 NMS emanate from the Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 and further supported by Executive Order No. 87, series of 2025, also known as “Updating the List of Designated Statistical Activities
that will Generate Critical Data for Decision-making of the Government and Private Sectors”.
The 2025 NMS is the second round of implementation, with the first round conducted in May 2018. Nationwide survey on migration in the Philippines was conducted by the University of the Philippines Population Institute in collaboration with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) data collection method will be employed for NMS with the use of the Android tablets.
The information collected from respondents shall be treated with utmost confidentiality, as mandated under Section 26 of the Republic Act 10625, which was signed into law on September 12, 2013. Those who refuse to participate in the survey may face penalties, including one year imprisonment and a substantial fine, as stipulated under Section 27 of the same law.
