Birth Statistics: April 2018 Quezon (Preliminary Results)

Vital registration is a continuous process. Hence there is a need to specify certain cut-off period for purposes of reporting. The Birth Statistics in Quezon presented in this report contains highlights and summary of statistical tables of births that occurred on or before April 2018 and registered within the said month. Events that occurred in April 2018 but were not registered during the month were not included in this publication. For this report, Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) 2011 was used in data encoding. In the generation of DVSS tables however, CSPro 6.2 was utilized. Live births… A total of 4,354 live births were registered in the province in April 2018. It recorded an increase of 13.4 percent from the March figure of 3,840. The daily average of birth occurrences during the month was 145. Of the total births registered, 50.6 percent were males and 49.4 percent were females. This resulted to a birth sex ratio of 102 males for every 100 females. Lucena City recorded the highest number of live births with a total of 1,029 or 23.6 percent of the total births registered in the province. It was followed by Candelaria with a total of 261 or 6.0 percent. The least number of registered births was observed in the municipality of Plaridel with only 1 or 0.02 percent. Attendant at Birth... The 2,892 (66.4 percent) birth deliveries were attended to by medically trained personnel such as physicians, nurses and midwives. Among the medically trained personnel, physicians attended to the most number of deliveries with 1,750 or 40.2 percent of the total births registered. 2 The number of birth occurrences delivered by the traditional birth attendants and those without medical training was 1,447 or 33.2 percent of the total. Eight municipalities in the province recorded higher number of live births attended to by traditional birth attendants compared to those attended to by health professionals. The municipality of Patnanungan (90.3 percent) topped the list of areas with high percentage of birth deliveries attended to by non-health professionals. It was followed by the municipalities of Buenavista, San Francisco, San Andres, and San Narciso with 76.1 percent, 75.7 percent, 74.6 percent and 72.4 percent, respectively. A total of 4,303 live births were registered in the province in October 2023. It recorded a decrease of 0.7 percent from the September 2023 figure of 4,335.
