An average of 53 deaths registered per day
In 2022, a total of 19,381 were registered in the Province of Batangas, a decreased of 29.3 percent from 27,396 in 2021.This corresponds to an average of 53 deaths per day which translate to about 2 deaths per hour.
Highest number of deaths reported in Batangas City
The highest number of registered deaths by usual residence occurred in Batangas City with 2,500 (13.2% share), followed by City of Lipa with 2,267 (12.0% share) and City of Tanauan with 1,233 (6.5% share). The combined share of these three cities accounted for about one-third (31.8% share) of the total registered deaths in 2022.
On the other hand, the three municipalities with the least number of registered deaths were Tingloy with 149 (0.6% share), Santa Teresita with 143 (0.8% share), San Nicolas with 149 (0.8% share), Balete with 151 (0.8% share), and Mataas na Kahoy with 178 (0.9% share). These municipalities accounted for only 3.9 percent of the overall registered deaths in Batangas Province in 2022.

January had the highest number of deaths
In 2022, the average number of deaths registered per day was highest in January at 2,025 or about 3 deaths per hour. The month of February had the lowest number of deaths registered per day at 1,373 or about 2 deaths per hour.
46.7 percent deaths were attended by health care provider
Attendant refers to a private physician, public health officer, hospital, authority, or any other allied health care provider who attended the deceased.
Out of 18,870 registered death by attended and place of residence in 2022, 46.7 percent were attended. Among 34 cities/municipalities, 53.1 percent were unattended.
More than half of the total registered deaths occurred at home
In 2022, 11,674 or 60.2 percent of the total deaths occurred at home while 7,682 or 39.6 percent died in any health facilities. Some (0.1% share) died in places other than home and health facilities, such as on the street, in public places, on board a vehicle, airplane or vessel while in transit, among others. A very small proportion of deaths have undetermined or unspecified sites because of missing information on the place of death of the decedent.
Highest number of infant deaths by usual residence recorded in City of Lipa
Infant deaths are deaths that occured before reaching age of 1. At the provincial level, Batangas recorded 611 infant deaths by usual residence were registered in 2022. The three cities with the highest number of infant deaths recorded were City of Lipa (86 or 0.5% share), Batangas City (75 or 0.4% share), and City of Sto. Tomas (52 or 0.3% share).
On the other hand, Tingloy with 1 and Santa Teresita with 2 were both recorded 0.01 percent share; Mataas na Kahoy and San Nicolas with 3, Alitagatag, Balete, Lobo, and San Luis with 4, were recorded 0.02 percent share; and Agoncillo with 5 and San Pascual with 6 were both recorded 0.03 percent share. These municipalities had the least number of registered infant deaths.
Highest number of maternal deaths recorded in Lipa City
A maternal death is defined by the World Health Organization as, “death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy irrespective of the duration and the site of pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management, but not from accidental causes.” In 2022, a total of 44 women were identified as having died of maternal causes in the country.
Among all cities/municipalities, Lipa City recorded the highest number of maternal deaths with 7 (15.9% share), followed by City of Sto. Tomas, San Jose, Batangas City with 4 (9.1% share) and Malvar with 3 or (6.8% share). On the other hand, no maternal deaths were recorded in the municipalities of Agoncillio, Alitagtag, Balete, Calaca, Mabini, Mataas na Kahoy, Nasugbu, San Luis, San Nicolas, San Pascual, Santa Teresita, Taysan, and Tingloy.
Lipa City recorded the highest number of fetal deaths
Fetal deaths refers to the death of a fetus irrespective of the duration of pregnancy prior to complete expulsion or extraction of a product of conception from the mother’s womb.
In 2022, a total of 323 fetal deaths were reported by moth of occurrence and by usual residence. By usual residence of mother, Lipa City had the highest number with 48 cases or 14.9 percent of the total, followed by Batangas City (39 or 12.1% share), and City of Sto. Tomas (34 or 10.5% share).
