Number of Deaths… There were 1,342 registered deaths in Quezon in June 2023. It recorded a decrease of 5.6 percent from the previous month’s figure of 1,421. The daily average of death occurrences during the month was 45 or approximately two deaths per hour. Deaths by Sex… There were more male deaths (770 or 57.4%) than female deaths (572 or 42.6%) registered during the month. The death sex ratio was calculated at 135 males for every 100 females in June 2023. Deaths by Age-group… Majority of the death occurrences belonged to age group 60 and over with a total of 818. This comprised more than half or 61.0 percent of the total deaths recorded for the month. Age group 55-59 years old registered the next highest death toll which accounted for 105 or 7.8 percent. Infant Deaths… Infant deaths totaled 58 or 4.3 percent of the total mortality. Infant deaths were higher for males (39) than females (19) giving an infant death sex ratio of 205 males for every 100 females. Deaths by Place of Occurrence and Usual Place of Residence… Lucena City recorded the most number of deaths at 372 or 27.7 percent. This may be explained by its large population and the health facilities available in the city. The municipality of Candelaria (98 or 7.3%) came next in terms of highest number of death occurrences. It was followed by Lopez (66 or 4.9%), Gumaca and Sariaya (both with 61 or 4.5%). There were 231 deaths that occurred outside the usual place of residence of the deceased. Lucena City recorded the highest number of deaths (174) that occurred outside the usual residence of the deceased. It was followed by Candelaria (19), Lopez (16), Gumaca (9) and Infanta (8). Majority of the rest of the municipalities and city of the province registered higher number of deaths by usual residence than the number of deaths by place of occurrence. Leading Causes of Deaths (8 days old & over)… There were 1,317 registered deaths among those aged 8 days and over. Of this total, 312 (23.7%) cases were due to diseases of the heart while hypertensive diseases accounted for 148 or 11.2 percent. Pneumonia caused 103 (7.8%) deaths, cerebrovascular diseases caused 80 (6.1%) while diabetes mellitus caused 71 (5.4%) deaths.
