Volume of Fisheries Production The total volume of fisheries production in Quezon province during the year was estimated at 60,897.62 metric tons. It increased by 3.7 percent from the 58,719.42 metric tons reported in 2021. This was brought about by the increase in the output from the municipal fisheries (31.3%). Meanwhile, production from commercial fisheries and aquaculture went down by 15.0 percent and 1.3 percent, respectively. Among the sub-sectors, production from aquaculture contributed the biggest share of 53.1 percent to the total fisheries production during the year. It was followed by the output from municipal fisheries with 30.2 percent. Meanwhile, commercial fisheries shared only 16.7 percent of the total fisheries production. Aquaculture Aquaculture fisheries production for 2022 decreased from 32,734.12 metrics tons to 32,314.86 metric tons. The drop in the total aquaculture production was mainly attributed to the decrement in the production of Milkfish and Mudcrab by 2,260 MT and 832.01 MT, respectively. These were caught in brackishwater fishpond. Commercial Fisheries Production for commercial fisheries was posted at 10,179.17 metric tons, a decrement of 15.0 percent compared to the 11,971.01 metric tons reported in 2021. The top five species that contributed in the decrease in the total production of this subsector were Roundscad or Galunggong (880.93 MT), Frigate Tuna or Tulingan (441.50 MT), Indian Mackerel or Alumahan (375.85 MT), Yellowfin Tuna or Tambakol (289.76MT), and Big-eyed Scad or Matangbaka (161.27 MT). Municipal Fisheries Municipal fisheries production was registered at 18,403.59 metric tons in 2022, which was higher by 4,389.30 MT compared to the previous year’s output of 14,014.29 metric tons. Of this total volume of production, 99.7 percent were credited to marine municipal fisheries while the rest were caught from inland bodies of water. The volume of production for Marine Municipal Fisheries resulted to a 31.6 percent increase from 13,941.46 metric tons in 2021 to 18,352.44 metric tons in 2022. The leading species that contributed to the increase in production of marine municipal fisheries were Big eye Tuna or Bariles (1,678.77 MT), Anchovies or Dilis (569.50MT), Big-eyed Scad or Matangbaka (487.69 MT), Frigate tuna or Tulingan (430.87 MT), and Eastern little tuna or Bonito (352.78 MT). Inland fisheries production during the year was recorded at 51.15 metric tons, lower by 29.8 percent from its 2021 same quarter production of 72.83 metric tons. The species contributing to the decrement in the total inland municipal fisheries production were Freshwater goby or Biya (15.25 MT) and Snail or Suso (8.58 MT).
