Population The total population of Quezon province was 2,229,383 based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH). There was an increase of 106,553 persons or 5.0 percent from the result of the 2015 Census of Population with 2,122,830. The total household population of Quezon province was 2,223,791 based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH). Males outnumbered females with recorded share of 50.7 percent and 49.3 percent, respectively. The population composition by sex was almost the same in 2015 Census of Population, 50.7 percent were males and 49.3 percent were females. There were more men than women starting from age zero or those below one year old until age group 55-59 years old. The total number of women in these age group comprised 51.4 percent On the other hand, women surpassed the number of men starting at age 60 years old and above. Females in these older age groups accounted for 55.7 percent . Sex Ratio stands at 103 males per 100 females The sex ratio in the province of Quezon was computed at 103 in 2020. This means that there were 103 males for every 100 females. This is lower compared to the sex ratio of 104 recorded in 2015. In 2020, children aged below 15 years had a sex ratio of 107 males per every 100 females, while those aged 15 to 64 years had a sex ratio of 105 males per 100 females. On the other hand, for those aged 65 years and over, the sex ratio was 71 males per 100 females. This implies a higher mortality rate among males than females or a longer life expectancy among females than males in the older groups. Children below five years old comprised 10.4 percent (230,679) of the household population. The sex ratio was computed at 106 males per 100 females in 2020. Median age increases to 24.5 The median age in Quezon province in 2020 was computed at 24.5 years, which means that half of the household population was younger than 24.5 years, while the other half is older than 24.5 years. This is higher than the median age of 23.7 years posted in 2015 . Dependency ratio declines to 61 dependents per 100 persons in the working-age group The dependency ratio in Quezon province was computed at 61, which indicates that for every 100 working-age or economically-active population, there were about 61 dependents (52 young dependents and 9 old dependents). About two in every five household population are of school age The school-age population (5 to 24 years old) accounted for 901,441 persons (40.5%) of the 2,223,791 household population in Quezon province. It was higher compared to the 879,220 school-age population that was reported in 2015. Senior citizens constitute 9.0 percent of the household population People aged 60 years old and over are regarded as senior citizens in the Philippines. In 2020, they made up 8.9 percent (197,636) of the household population. There were more females (56.0%) than males (44.0%) among the senior citizens in 2020. The same trend was observed in 2015. Almost half of the female population are of reproductive age Women of reproductive age (15 to 49 years old) in Quezon province totaled 554,992 or 49.7 percent of the 1,095,729 female household population in 2020. This figure was higher compared with the 48.7 percent (523,117) women of reproductive age posted in 2015. Vital Statistics (Preliminary Results) Live Births The total number of registered births in Quezon province in 2022 was 46,066. This figure was higher by 8,481 or 22.6 percent from the previous year’s total of 37,525. The daily average of birth occurrences during the year was 126. There were more males (23,662 or 51.4%) than females (22,344 or 48.6%) registered during the year. This resulted to a birth sex ratio of 106 males for every 100 females. Lucena City recorded the highest number of live births with a total of 11,248 or 24.4 percent of the total births registered in the province. Among the municipalities, Candelaria (3,338 or 7.3%) topped the rest of the municipalities/city in terms of the number of live births. The least number of registered births was observed in the municipalities of Perez (75 or 0.2%) and Plaridel (22 or 0.05%). Age Group of Mother Seven in ten births were born to mothers aged 20-34 (32,669 or 71.0%). The number of births born to teenage mothers was 5,715 or 12.4 percent. A total of 231 births or 0.5 percent were born to mothers at the menopausal age (45 years old and over). Number of Marriages There were 9,396 registered marriages in Quezon for the year 2022 showing an increase of 37.0 percent from the previous year’s total of 6,857. On the average, about 26 marriages occurred per day in 2022. May was the most favored month to marry, with a total of 1,282 marriages. It registered the highest daily average of 41 marriages. April had the next highest number of marriages with 1,046 or a daily average of 35. August recorded the least number of marriages with 433. Marriages by Age Group of Bride and Groom There was a similar trend among men and women when it comes to age at marriage. The highest recorded number of brides and grooms belonged to age group 25-29 years old, with a total of 3,662 (39.0%) and 3,563 (37.9%), respectively. There were more teenage brides than grooms in 2022. Teen brides comprised 441 or 4.7 percent of the total marriages while teen grooms consisted of only 129 or 1.4 percent. Number of Deaths There were 14,508 registered deaths in Quezon for the year 2022. It recorded a decrease of 27.1 percent from the previous year’s figure of 19,895. The daily average of death occurrences during the year was 40 or approximately two deaths per hour. Death by Sex There were more male deaths (8,234 or 56.8%) than female deaths (6,274 or 43.2%) registered during the year. The death sex ratio was calculated at 131 males for every 100 females in 2022. Death by Age-Group The bulk of registered deaths belonged to age group 60 and over with a total of 8,599. This comprised 59.3 percent or more than half of the total deaths recorded for the year. Age group 55-59 years old accounted for the next highest death toll of 1,260 or 8.7 percent. Infant Deaths Infant deaths totaled 533 or 3.7 percent of the total mortality. Infant deaths were higher for males (314) than females (219) giving an infant death sex ratio of 143 males for every 100 females. Leading Causes of Deaths (8 days old over) There were 14,240 registered deaths among those aged 8 days and over. Of this total, 3,433 (24.1%) cases were due to diseases of the heart while hypertensive diseases accounted for 1,685 or 11.8 percent. Cerebrovascular diseases caused 1,029 (7.2%) deaths, diabetes mellitus caused 731 (5.1%) deaths while pneumonia caused 704 (4.9%) deaths.
