The Palay Production Survey (PPS) is one of the major agricultural surveys conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). This generates estimates on palay production, area, yield, and other production-related data that serve as inputs for policy making and programs on palay/rice. Specifically, the production data generated from the survey are direct inputs to the Value of Production in Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries and to the computation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP),   Moreover, the survey supports the data needs of planners, policy and decision makers, and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector, particularly the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Agriculture (DA) and its attached agencies such as Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), Philippine Council for Agriculture, and Fisheries (PCAF), and the general public.   Palay production decreases by 16.58 percent In 2022, Palay Production of the province produced a total of 23,213.78 metric tons . Palay production had decreased by 16.58 percent at 27,828.66 compared in 2021. By ecosystem, production from irrigated palay was at 22,744.58 metric tons produced this year, this output was 16.04 percent lower compared to the 27,089.66 metric tons produced in 2021. Similarly a decreased in volume of production in 2022 was observed in the rainfed ecosystem with the production dropping to 469.2 metric tons, from 2021 volume of production of 739 metric tons. Areas of harvested palay decreased by 17.69 percent The area of harvested palay for the year 2022 was recorded at 6,185.41 hectares, compared in 2021, at 7,514.87 hectares there was a decreased of 17.69 percent. By ecosystem, the areas of harvested irrigated palay and rainfed palay had also decreased by 16.93 percent and 33.49 percent, respectively. The decreased in irrigated palay was from 7,171.97 hectares in 2021 to 5,957.41 hectares in 2022. Rainfed palay also decreased from 342.9 hectraes in 2021 to 228 hectares in 2022 to 342.9 hectares in 2021. TECHNICAL NOTES Reference Date April Round Survey – January to March July Round Survey – April to June October Round Survey – July to September January Round Survey – October to December   Objectives The objective of the survey is to generate estimates and forecasts on palay/corn area, production and yield. The purpose of this survey is to provide data inputs for policy and programs on rice and corn.
