Volume of Fisheries Production The total volume of fisheries production in Quezon province during the third quarter of 2022 was estimated at 15,451.17 metric tons. It decreased by 19.5 percent from the 19,189.46 metric tons reported in the same quarter of 2021. This was brought about by the decrease in the output from all the sub-sectors, namely, municipal fisheries (33.4%), commercial fisheries (24.1%) and aquaculture (13.1%). Among the subsectors, production from aquaculture contributed the biggest share of 64.0 percent to the total fisheries production during the period. It was followed by the output from municipal fisheries with 19.1 percent. Meanwhile, commercial fisheries shared 16.9 percent. Aquaculture Aquaculture fisheries production for the third quarter of 2022 decreased from 11,377.75 metrics tons to 9,885.95 metric tons. The decrease in the total aquaculture production was attributed mostly to the decline in total production of Milkfish by 985.04 MT and Mudcrab by 731.40 MT. Commercial Fisheries Production for commercial fisheries was posted at 2,611.39 metric tons, a decrement of 24.1 percent compared to the 3,442.04 metric tons reported in the same quarter in 2021. The top five species that contributed most to the decline in total production in this subsector were Roundscad or Galunggong (550.52 MT), Frigate Tuna or Tulingan (316.28 MT), Indian mackerel or Alumahan (83.33 MT), Skipjack or Gulyasan (43.52 MT) and Spanish Mackerel or Tanigue (38.56 MT). Municipal Fisheries Municipal fisheries production was registered at 2,953.83 MT in the third quarter of 2022, which was lower by 1,415.84 MT compared to the same quarter’s output of 4,369.67 MT in the previous year. Of this total volume of production, 99.8 percent were credited to marine municipal fisheries while the rest were caught from inland bodies of water. The volume of production for Marine Municipal Fisheries resulted to a 32.1 percent decrease from 4,343.10 metric tons in the same quarter of 2021 to 2,946.95 metric tons this quarter of 2022. The leading species that contributed to the decline in the volume of production of marine fisheries were Threadfin bream or Bisugo (1,786.51 MT), Grouper or Lapu-Lapu (95.87 MT), Roundscad or Galunggong (76.43 MT), Squid or Pusit (57.22 MT) and Frigate Tuna or Tulingan (33.45 MT). Inland fisheries production during the third quarter of 2022 was recorded at 6.88 metric tons, lower by 74.1 percent from its 2021 same quarter production of 26.57 metric tons. The decline in the total inland municipal fisheries production was mostly due to the absence of production of freshwater Goby or Biya and Freshwater Crab or Talangka. (SGD.) AIRENE A.
