SPECIAL RELEASE: Age and Sex Distribution of Population in Lucena City (2020 Census of Population and Housing)

Lucena City had a total of 278,924 persons as of May 1, 2020, based on the result of 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH). Of this figure, the household population comprised 278,347 persons accounting for 99.5 percent. Of the total 278,347 household population in 2020, 139,143 (50.0 percent) were males while 139,204 (50.0 percent) were females. By age group, 87,451 persons (31.4 percent) were under 15 years of age (young dependents), while persons aged 15 to 64 years (working-age or economically active population) totaled 177,173 (63.7 percent). The remaining 13,723 persons (4.9 percent) were aged 65 years and over (old dependents). In addition, there were more males (89.6 percent) than females (86.7 percent) among the 0 to 54 years age group. Meanwhile, for older age group (55 years and over) females (13.3 percent) outnumbered the males (10.4 percent). The same trend was also observed in 2015. Sex ratio stands at 100 males per 100 females The sex ratio in Lucena City was computed at 100 in 2020. This implies that there was one male for every one female. The same trend was also observed in 2015. In 2020, children aged below 15 years had a sex ratio of 106 males per every 100 females, while those aged 15 - 64 years old had a sex ratio of 100 males per 100 females. On the other hand, for those aged 65 years and over, the sex ratio was 62 males per 100 females. This implies a higher mortality rate among males than females or a longer life expectancy among females than males in the older age groups. Median age increases to 24.6 years The median age in Lucena City was computed at 24.6 years, which means that half of the household population was younger than 24.6 years, while the other half was older than 24.6 years. This is higher than the median age of 23.7 posted in 2015. Dependency ratio is 57 dependents per 100 persons in the working age-group The dependency ratio in Lucena City was computed at 57, which indicates that for every 100 working-age population, there were about 57 dependents (49 young dependents and 8 old dependents). In 2015, the dependency ratio was also 57 but young dependents increased (51 young dependents and 6 old dependents).
