The Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Statistical Services Office IV-A (PSA-RSSO IV-A) announced officially the total population counts of CALABARZON region, as of 01 May 2020, through a Regional Data Dissemination Forum conducted on 22 July 2021 via Zoom online platform.   PSA Region IV-A Regional Director Charito C. Armonia emphasized the importance of the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) in her opening message, noting that it is an essential tool for the development of plans and programs of the government even the private sectors, as well as in various school research fields. She thanked the public and other agencies especially Department of Education (DepEd) for their continued support and participation in the 2020 census despite the COVID-19 situation in the country. She also expressed gratitude to the Media partners and Local Government Units (LGUs) for assisting the PSA in disseminating IEC materials. She further stressed that the official counts will help planners and the government in making policies and programs in the face of challenges like pandemic.   RD Armonia reported that the population of Region IV-A – CALABARZON, as of 01 May 2020 is 16,195,042 based on the 2020 CPH. This accounted for about 14.85 percent of the Philippine population in 2020. She also informed that the 2020 population of the region is higher by 1.78 million compared with the population of 14.41 million in 2015; by 3.59 million compared with the population of 12.61 million in 2010; and by 6.87 million compared with the population of 9.32 million 2000. The population of CALABARZON increased by 2.48 percent annually, on average, during the period of 2015 to 2020. She added that among the five provinces comprising the region, Cavite had the biggest population with 4.34 million, followed by Laguna with 3.38 million, Rizal with 3.33 million, and Batangas with 2.91 million.  Quezon had the smallest population with 1.95 million. The City of Lucena, the only highly urbanized city in the region, posted a population of 279 thousand.   In addition, the National Economic Development Authority Region IV-A Regional Director Luis G. Banua served as the keynote speaker and discussed the policy implications of the updated population counts to regional development. He also thanked the public for their participation as well as the PSA for their unwavering efforts in pushing the census forward despite the pandemic.   Assistant Regional Director Marilyn F. Ogaya of the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) – CALABARZON, and Provincial Government Assistant Department Head Marisa M. Mendoza of the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) of Batangas, were also present as invited discussants.   The forum was attended by a total of 90 virtual participants from eight (8) broadcast and media agencies, 43 regional line agencies (RLAs) and three (3) academic institutions.       (SGD) CHARITO C.
