Construction Statistics from Approved Building Permits: Fourth Quarter 2019 (Final Results) Number of constructions up by 21.5 percent during the fourth quarter of 2019 The total number of constructions in the fourth quarter of 2019 reached 1,953 , based on the preliminary results of construction statistics from approved building permits. This reflects increase of 21.5 percent from the 1,608 constructions recorded during the same quarter of 2018 . Batangas ranked number four in the provincial level among provinces in the Philippines which accounted for 32.1 percent of the total number of constructions while Cavite ranked first. By type of construction, residential posted the highest number of 1,426 or 73.0 percent . Compared with the fourth quarter of 2018 , this type of construction . was 15.7 percent increase this quarter. Majority of the residential constructions was duplex/quadruplex which accounted for 27.8 percent share of the total residential constructions. Constructions of apartment/accessoria posted the least share at 0.7 percent . Meanwhile residential condominium and other residential reported 0 constructions for the quarter. The number of non-residential constructions at 344 accounted for 17.6 percent of the total, posting 45.0 percent increase from the 237 constructions recorded during the same period of 2018 . Commercial type of constructions with a share of 72.4 percent dominated the number of constructions among the types of non-residential constructions. The number of additions to existing structures at 5 was increased by 400.0 percent from the 1 recorded during the same quarter of 2018. Similarly, the combined number of alterations and repairs of existing structures at 178 declined by 29.9 percent from the 137 projects recorded in the same quarter of previous year. Total value of constructions decreased by 15.1 percent Total value of constructions, which was estimated at PHP5,544,399 million, went up by 31.9 percent compared with the PHP 4,202,338 million registered during the fourth quarter of 2018 . Residential building constructions valued at PHP 2,022,746 million, accounted for 36.5 percent of the total value. This represents an increase of 28.8 percent from the 1,570,863 million value of construction in the fourth quarter of the previous year. Construction value of non-residential buildings, amounted to PHP 3,468,731 million. This value reflects an increase of 59.5 percent from the PHP 2,175,319 million value of construction in the fourth quarter of the previous year. Furthermore, construction value for addition to existing structures which amounted to PHP 7,406 or 0.10 percent of the total, dropped by 12,041.0 percent from , PHP 61 thousand in the same period of 2018 . Likewise, construction values for alteration and repair of existing structures at PHP 45,516 fell by 90 percent from the PHP 456,095 million construction value recorded in the same quarter of 2018 . Average cost per square meter of residential-type construction increase by 1.3 percent Residential building constructions for the fourth quarter of 2019 had an average cost of PHP 9,530 per square meter and an average floor area of 148 square meters per building. Among residential constructions, apartment/accessoria construction recorded a decline with average cost of PHP 12,346 per square meter. This type of residential construction had an average floor area of 198.2 square meters per building. Average cost per square meter of non-residential building constructions decrease by 21.2 percent Non-residential building constructions had an average cost of PHP 7,133 per square meter and an average floor area 1,413.7 square meters per building. The average cost was 21.2 percent lower than the PHP 9,056 per square meter average cost posted in the same quarter of 2018 . Addition building construction reported the highest average cost of PHP 10,460 . Agricultural-type building construction registered the lowest average cost of PHP 4,460 with an average floor area of 5,237.4 square meters per building.
