MONTHLY  AGRICULTURAL SITUATION REPORT December 2019 BATANGAS PROVINCE CROPS In Sto. Tomas harvesting of the following crops was noted: about 600 kilograms of papaya green in Bgry. San Vicente, Sto. Tomas, 3,500 kilograms of tomato in Brgy Sta. Teresita and around 7,500 pieces of Pineapple in Brgy. San Francisco. In Brgy. Pitugo, Bauan, spraying of flower inducer on mango was observed.  Other trees were on its flowering and early fruiting stage.  Moreover, 2.00 metric tons of singkamas was reported in Brgy. Pitugo, Bauan also. About, 3.00 metric tons of Chico was harvested in the different barangays of San Pascual. In Sta. Rita Calsada, Batangas City, around 100 trees of Chico was cut-off due to ongoing due to diversion Road Project of the government. A newly established Greenhouse at Brgy. Bonliw, San Luis was noted.  This project was from the 20.0 percent development fund of the LGU. LIVESTOCK  AND POULTRY Prices of hogs per kilo live weight increase from P80.00 to P90.00 due to increment demand. In Brgy. San Roque, Sto. Tomas, farmgate price of fighting cock ranges from P3, 880.00 to P4, 000.00 per head weighing 2.00 kilograms per head. FISHERIES Less fishing trips was noted for commercial and municipal fishing boats due to typhoons Tisoy and Ursula. PRICES AND MARKET SITUATION Fluctuating retail prices of some vegetables and fruits in the market was observed depending on the supply and demand situation. Farms Price  per kilogram/piece of the following crops were as follows: Papaya green - P12.00 - P15.00 Tomato            - P 40.00 - P50.00/piece Ubi                   - P 35.00 - P40.00 Banana, saba  - P 1.50 - P2.00 Chico               - P18.00 - P 25.00 SIGNIFICANT AGRICULTURAL INFRA-STRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT/ PROGRAMS/ POLICIES/ GOVERNMENT INTERVENTIONS SEMINARS/TRAINING/WORKSHOPS/MEETINGS No seminars/meeting was recorded WEATHER/CLIMATIC CONDITION/Outlook Generally, the month of December was mostly cloudy especially during early morning and late afternoon.  But during December 2, 2019, heavy rains with gusty winds occurred due to the effect of Typhoon “Tisoy” which brought the province into typhoon signal no. 3.  Another typhoon hit Batangas last Dec. 24, 2019.  This situation greatly affected our marine fishermen as fishing operation was hampered due to   strong winds, heavy rains and rough seas.
