Birth Statistics: December 2018 Quezon (Preliminary Results)

Vital registration is a continuous process. Hence there is a need to specify certain cut-off period for purposes of reporting. The Birth Statistics in Quezon presented in this report contains highlights and summary of statistical tables of births that occurred on or before December 2018 and registered within the said month. Events that occurred in December 2018 but were not registered during the month were not included in this publication. For this report, Decentralized Vital Statistics System (DVSS) 2011 was used in data encoding. In the generation of DVSS tables however, CSPro 6.2 was utilized. Live births… A total of 3,407 live births were registered in the province in December 2018. It recorded a decrease of 9.4 percent from the November figure of 3,759. The daily average of birth occurrences during the month was 110. Of the total births registered, 53.9 percent were males and 46.1 percent were females. This resulted to a birth sex ratio of 117 males for every 100 females. Lucena City recorded the highest number of live births with a total of 984 or 28.9 percent of the total births registered in the province. It was followed by Lopez with a total of 274 or 8.0 percent. The least number of registered births was observed in the municipality of Plaridel with only one (1) or 0.03 percent. Attendant at birth... The 2,748 (80.7 percent) birth deliveries were attended to by medically trained personnel such as physicians, nurses and midwives. Among the medically trained personnel, physicians attended to the most number of deliveries with 1,763 or 51.7 percent of the total births registered.The number of birth occurrences delivered by the traditional birth attendants and those without medical training was 649 or 19.0 percent of the total. Five municipalities in the province recorded higher number of live births attended to by traditional birth attendants compared to those attended to by health professionals. The municipality of San Francisco (77.5 percent) topped the list of areas with high percentage of birth deliveries attended to by non-health professionals. It was followed by the municipalities of Panukulan, San Narciso, Buenavista and Patnanungan with 66.7 percent, 59.1 percent, 55.6 percent, and 53.1percent respectively. A total of 4,303 live births were registered in the province in October 2023. It recorded a decrease of 0.7 percent from the September 2023 figure of 4,335.
