2018 Civil Registration Month Celebration Ends With A Bang

With various activities conducted this February, the celebration of Civil Registration Month in Quezon was a huge success. Spearheaded by the Philippine Statistics Authority-Quezon Provincial Statistical Office (PSA Quezon), in cooperation with the Local Civil Registry Offices (LCRO) in the province, the observance of Civil Registration Month has achieved its objectives in raising awareness and appreciation of legal, administrative, and statistical values of civil registry documents among the people of Quezon. Among the activities steered by PSA Quezon as part of the celebration included Civil Registration Quiz, On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest, Slogan Writing Contest, Seminar/Lecture on Civil Registration and radio guestings. In cooperation with the LCROs, PSA Quezon also participated in various activities conducted in different municipalities in the province to reach out to stakeholders in the far flung areas and make birth registration easier for them. Some staff of PSA Quezon also participated in the “Kasalang Bayan” initiated by various Local Government Units (LGUs) wherein they emphasized the importance of the month-long celebration in their message during the ceremony. The celebration begun on February 9, 2018 through a Motorcade that was participated in by PSA-Quezon, Local Civil Registrars and their staff, and other stakeholders of civil registration in the province. The motorcade with more than 200 participants aboard on 31 vehicles had travelled around the main streets in Lucena City, all the way to Tayabas City Hall via the Lucena Maharlika National Highway-Calaumpang-Tayabas Road. In the afternoon of the same day, a Civil Registration Quiz was held at the Activity Center, 3rd Floor, Pacific Mall, Lucena City. Forty three participants from the 27 Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs) in Quezon province joined the quiz which aims to provide a venue for review and re-assessment of LCRO staff on their knowledge about civil registration. Ms. Ma. Rebecca T. Bautista of Tagkawayan LCRO was proclaimed champion in the said Quiz while Ms. Sherry Ann A. Natividad of General Nakar and Mr. Aaron A. Alcantara of Candelaria were declared 2nd and 3rd placers, respectively. The winners received three thousand pesos (P3,000), two thousand five hundred pesos (P2,500) and two thousand pesos (P2,000), respectively as cash prizes aside from certificates of recognition. All contestants received certificate of participation and some PSA give away items. Meanwhile, the winners of the Civil Registration Slogan Writing Contest was also announced during the program. Adjudged winning slogan “Kinabukasa’y Isipin, Napapanahong CRVS Paunlarin, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Lipunan Natin” was the entry of the LCRO of Padre Burgos. The 2nd and 3rd placers were the LCROs of Unisan and Lucban, respectively. The winners of the Slogan Writing Contest received the same amount and prizes as that of the winners of the Civil Registration Quiz. The entries in the Slogan Writing Contest were earlier submitted by LCROs on February 8, 2018 and were judged by the following: Mr. Lito Giron, Provincial Manager of the Philippine Information Agency-Quezon, Ms. Maritess J. Balquiedra, Station Manager, DWLC Radyo Pilipinas, and PSO Airene. A. Pucyutan of PSA-Quezon. Another activity conducted by PSA Quezon in relation to the celebration was the On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest for junior high school students of Lucena City held on February 23, 2018 at Activity Center, 3rd Floor, Pacific Mall, Lucena City. The winners of the said contest were Iverson D. De Los Santos of International School for Better Beginnings, 1st Place, Florinda Eunice L. Abela of Maryhill College, 2nd Place, Sigrid Onneida I. Camara of Holy Rosary Catholc School, 3rd Place, Dorina A. Reyes, International School for Better Beginnings, 4th Place, and John Kirvey D. Quintana, Cotta National High School, 5th Place. The Board of Judges of the said contest include the following: PSO Airene A Pucyutan of PSA Quezon, Mr. Lito Giron, Provincial Manager, Philippine Information Agency, Ms. Catalina Jabrica, Mall Manager, Pacific Mall, Architect Warren Quimbao, Chief, Inspection and Enforcement Division, Lucena City Engineering Office and Mr. Dik Cantos, Program Supervisor of DWLC Radyo Pilipinas. To enhance awareness and appreciation of young people of civil registration, a Seminar/Lecture on this topic was conducted by PSA Quezon for senior high school students of Quezon Science High School and STI Lucena on February 26 and 27, 2018, respectively. Senior Statistical Specialist Ruben V. Litan and Statistical Specialist II Margarita Cada visited the said schools to discuss with students of their duty to register vital events in their life such as births, marriages, and deaths, as well as legal instruments, judicial orders and court decrees affecting their civil status. They also talked about the processes and laws governing civil registration and its importance to nation building. After the lecture, a short quiz ensued to review if the students learned about the topic discussed. Students who got the most number of correct answers from the quiz received consolation prizes from PSA Quezon. Moreover, PSA Quezon, in support of the civil registration activities of LCROs in the province participated in the mobile registration and mobile acceptance of application for issuance of civil registry documents, and free registration of birth and other legal instruments. Such activities were held in Unisan, Mauban, Macalelon, Candelaria, Mulanay and Lopez. Mass wedding (kasalang bayan) ceremonies in the municipalities of Gumaca, Lucban, Candelaria, Lopez, Unisan and General Luna were likewise attended by PSA Personnel.
