CPI by commodity group, Year-on-Year Alcoholic beverages and tobacco showed the highest CPI (311.6 index points) among the commodity groups. The group of restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services followed with 127.3 index points. Transport registered the least CPI of 100.9 index points followed by communication with 103.3 index points. Inflation Rate, Year-on-Year The inflation rate (IR) in the province was recorded at 2.1 percent during the reference month. It decreased by 0.2 percentage point from the previous month’s figure of 2.3 percent, but it increased by 0.9 percentage points from the rate a year ago at 1.2 percent. Inflation Rate by Commodity Group, Year-on-Year By commodity group, IR was highest for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, posted at 17.0 percent during the month. Furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (2.8 percent) exhibited the second highest IR, followed by the commodity group of food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.2 percent). Transport recorded a negative IR of 0.9 percent. Zero inflation was noted in the commodity group of education. The rest of the commodity groups had IR ranging from 0.2 percent (communication) to 2.1 percent (housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels). Purchasing power of peso… The purchasing power of peso (PPP) in the province for the month of July 2020 was posted at 81 centavos. The figure was the same since February 2020. The PPP implies that goods and services worth one peso in the current month can be availed at only 81 centavos during the same period in year 2012.
