PSA QUEZON ENLISTS THE SUPPORT OF THE PUBLIC IN THE CELEBRATION OF THE 35TH NSM
On October 7, 2024, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - Quezon Provincial Statistical Office announced the celebration of the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) during a flag raising ceremony held at the Quezon Convention Center, Lucena City attended by Supervising Statistical Specialist (SSS) Normita D. Pagkatipunan, Senior Statistical Specialist Margarita G. Cada, and Registration Officer I Danica O. Cabalsa.
In her message, SSS Pagkatipunan highlighted the theme of this year’s NSM, “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation”. She also outlined some of the activities lined up for the month-long celebration which includes display of streamers/tarpaulins and data exhibit, conduct of various contests such as social media card design, digital slogan-writing, poster-making, and news-feature writing, participation to seminars and conferences on various data, organizing a motorcade, and many others. Further, she encouraged all partner agencies and the local government units in the province to actively participate and support the observance of NSM.
The annual observance of the NSM is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647, “Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National Statistics Month”, issued on 20 September 1990 by then President Corazon C. Aquino. The NSM aims to promote, enhance, and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society; and elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.

THE 35TH NSM KICKS OFF WITH THE RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY OF THE INTER-AGENCY STATISTICAL DATA EXHIBIT
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - Quezon Provincial Statistical Office under the leadership of Provincial Statistics Officer Airene A. Pucyutan officially launched the celebration of the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) with an opening program and a data exhibit ribbon cutting ceremony held at the Activity Center, Pacific Mall, Lucena City on October 8, 2024.
Present in the event were provincial line agency heads and officials from various government and private offices, members of the Provincial Statistics Committee of Quezon, City/Municipal Civil Registrars from different cities/municipalities in the province, media partners, and other stakeholders.
The ribbon cutting ceremony of the Inter-agency Statistical Data Exhibit highlighted the event. It was led by PSA-Quezon Provincial Statistics Officer Airene A. Pucyutan together with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - Quezon Provincial Director Julieta Tadiosa, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) - Quezon OIC-Provincial Officer Edd Fernan Gonzales, Quezon Association of Civil Registrars President/ City Civil Registrar of Tayabas Maide O. Jader, Project Development Officer IV Monina Talaga of Provincial Planning and Development Office, and Pacific Mall-Lucena Assistant Manager Elvira Avenido. The exhibit showcased various survey results from the PSA, complemented by statistical data contributions from different provincial line agencies including DOST, DTI, DEPED-Quezon, DENR-PENRO, DAR II, and LCRO Tayabas.
The said event also served as a platform to discuss the features of eGov application as presented by the DICT, and updates on Philippine Identification System.
The celebration of the 35th NSM adapts the theme “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation”. The event concluded with a group photo opportunity with PSA-Quezon officials and its stakeholders.

TOP 5 WINNERS OF THE 2024 PSQ PROVINCIAL ELIMINATION ADVANCE TO REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - Quezon Provincial Statistical Office proudly commended the top five (5) winners in the recently conducted 2024 Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Quezon Provincial Elimination held on October 29, 2024 at the Activity Center of Pacific Mall, Lucena City, Quezon.
A total of sixty (60) freshmen students participated in the 2024 PSQ Provincial Elimination who came from twenty (20) participating colleges and universities in Quezon Province.
After three sequential rounds of the contest proper, Mr. Harry L. Esperanza (BS Computer Science student) of Colegio de la Ciudad de Tayabas ranked 1st among the 60 competing students.
Mr. Elison James B. Lopez (BS Civil Engineering student) of Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Lopez and Mr. James Miro R. Orte (BS Information Technology student) of Dalubhasaan ng Lungsod ng Lucena sealed the next two spots, winning 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Joining them were 4th and 5th placer Mr. Nathaniel S. Sacristia (BS Nursing student) of Maryhill College Lucena, and Ms. Kate Yshebel C. Gonzales (BS Accountancy student) of Sacred Heart College of Lucena City, Inc.
All the top five (5) winners will advance to the Regional Championship to represent the province of Quezon in the said competition scheduled on 08 November 2024 in Lipa City, Batangas.
The conduct of PSQ is a yearly competition made for college freshmen students which primarily aims to assess the competency and skills of students in statistics. It is also one of the regular activities organized by PSA in line with the celebration of the 35th National Statistics Month anchored with the theme “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation”.

35TH NSM CONCLUDES WITH AWARDS CEREMONY
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) - Quezon Provincial Statistical Office under the lead of Provincial Statistics Officer Airene A. Pucyutan concluded the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) with a closing ceremony held on October 30, 2024 at the activity center of Pacific Mall, Lucena City.
Present in the event were teachers and students from various educational institutions in the province, as well as staff and officials from the Local Civil Registry Office (LCRO) and PSA-Quezon.
The celebration highlighted the awarding ceremony for the top three (3) winners of the various contests conducted in celebration of the 35th NSM. A special award was also given to the winner with the most Facebook reactions. Each of them received a certificate of recognition, a medal, and a token.
The Statistical Social Media Card Contest for Local Civil Registry Offices awarded first place to LCRO Lucban, second place to LCRO Tayabas City, and third place to LCRO Mauban. A Special Award was given to LCRO Atimonan.
The feature writing contest, which drew 24 college student participants, was won by Mjay D. Fuentes of Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Mulanay. Second place went to Ma. Cleofe G. Bernardino of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation-Lucena, and third place to John Renz Dela Cruz of Northern Quezon College, Inc. A Special Award was presented to Cherry Ann C. Orozo of Northern Quezon College, Inc.
In the Digital Slogan-Writing Contest, the top three positions were claimed by students from Gulang-Gulang National High School: John Eric Llavanes (1st) and Christian Jake R. Millena (2nd). Maria Kathrene Alrianne Borromeo of Calayan Educational Foundation, Inc. secured both third place and a Special Award.
The said event also served as a platform to disseminate data on inflation rate and consumer price index, as well as to orient students and invited guests on Selected Basic Statistical Indicators from various PSA surveys and censuses.
PSA-Quezon extends its warmest congratulations to all the winners and expresses its sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the 35th NSM celebration.

QUEZON'S INFLATION RATE DROPS TO 3.3 PERCENT IN SEPTEMBER 2024
The headline inflation or overall inflation in Quezon slowed down further to 3.3 percent in September 2024, from 5.1 percent in August 2024. This brings the average inflation rate of the province from January to September 2024 to 3.5 percent. In September 2023, inflation rate was higher at 3.7 percent.
The downtrend in the overall inflation in September 2024 was primarily brought about by the slower annual increment in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 4.5 percent during the month, from an annual increase of 9.2 percent in August 2024.

LUCENA CITY'S INFLATION RATE SLOWS DOWN IN SEPTEMBER 2024
The headline inflation or overall inflation in Lucena City slowed down further to 3.5 percent in September 2024, from 4.7 percent in August 2024. This brings the average inflation rate of the city from January to September 2024 to 3.7 percent. In August 2023, inflation rate was higher at 4.0 percent.
The downtrend in the overall inflation in August 2024 was primarily brought about by the slower annual increment in the index of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 7.2 percent during the month, from an annual increase of 11.9 percent in August 2024.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLES (IPs) REGISTER FOR THE PHILIPPINE IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM (PHILSYS) AT GENERAL NAKAR
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Quezon was invited to join the celebration of the 27th Commemoration of the Indigenous Peoples’ Right Act on October 10, 2024 held at Dumagat Ecolodge, Sitio Masla, Barangay Sablang, General Nakar Quezon. The activity was attended by various IPs tribal community - Katutubong Dumagat, Katutubong Remontado, Katutubong Aeta, Katutubong Manide and Katutubong Sama Badjao all over Quezon province.
To ensure the inclusion of Indigenous People to Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), PSA Quezon took the effort in making the registration accessible through onsite mobile registration. IP registrants were able to register to PhilSys using tribal certification issued by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP). Other PhilSys services such as printing of ePhilID, Transaction Reference Number (TRN) verification and demonstration on how to download the Digital National ID were also provided.
During the event, PSA Quezon also conducted a short orientation on the use and benefits of National ID and how they can utilize PhilID in claiming benefits for social protection programs. PSA reminded the public that the three (3) formats of National ID (physical card, ePhilID and Digital National ID) has the same validity and functionality and must be accepted in all transactions requiring proof of identity. With this, PSA encouraged all unregistered individuals to register to PhilSys and take advantage to have a free and valid government issued ID. PSA continues to prioritize IP registration within the province. Based on records there are four thousand seventy-one (4,071) IPs registered to PhilSys as of September 2024.
