In the second quarter of 2024, Laguna's corn production totaled 1,090.00 metric tons, showing 43.5% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2023, when production amounted to 759.55 metric tons.
Similarly, the corn harvested area in the province increased by 34.7%, climbing from 225.00 hectares in the second quarter of 2023 to 303.00 hectares in the second quarter of 2024.
Moreover, the yield per hectare also showed an increase of 6.5%, from 3.38 metric tons per hectare in the second quarter of 2023 to 3.60 metric tons per hectare in the second quarter of 2024.
In the second quarter of 2024, corn production in the CALABARZON Region showed a decrease of 15.6%, from 13,653.12 metric tons in 2023 to 11,525.12 metric tons in 2024.
Among the five provinces, Laguna recorded the third highest in terms of corn production volume, contributing 9.46% (1090.00 metric tons) to the region's total. Leading the region in corn production was Quezon, accounting for 57.51% (6,628.54 metric tons), followed by Batangas with 26.42% (3,004.45 metric tons), Cavite with 4.72% (543.89 metric tons), and Rizal with 1.89% (218.24 metric tons).
The total area harvested for corn in the CALABARZON Region showed a notable 12.8% decrease, dropping from 5,023.53 hectares in the second quarter of 2023 to 4,382.12 hectares in the same quarter of 2024. Laguna accounted for the fourth largest proportion of the harvested area, comprising 6.91% (303.00 hectares). Leading in harvested area was Quezon, holding 57.74% (2,530.45 hectares), followed by Batangas at 24.92% (1,092.00 hectares), Cavite with a 8.21% share (360.05 hectares), and Rizal at 2.20% (96.62 hectares).
In the second quarter of 2024, the volume of white corn produced in Laguna was 1,253.50 metric tons, marking a 10.0% decrease from the production volume of 1,140.00 metric tons in the first quarter of 2023. Similarly, yellow corn production decreased by 13.5%, dropping from 1,016.70 metric tons in the first quarter of 2023 to 879.52 metric tons in the first quarter of 2024.
