PRICE SITUATION IN BATANGAS (2012=100) AUGUST 2018 The data presented herein were based on the results of the 2012-based Consumer Price Index Survey for all income households in Batangas for the month of August 2018. YEAR-ON-YEAR The August 2018 Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Batangas was posted at 118.6 index points and this was 6.3 points higher than the index points last year 2017 of the same at 112.3. Contributed to the upward trend where the large increased of Alcoholic Beverages and To-bacco and Transport group. Among the commodity groups, Alcoholic Bever-ages and Tobacco group placed with the highest annual index points, gain-ing a double digits increased of 45.1. Higher annual increments was also observed in Restaurant and Miscellaneous Services, 11.0; Housing, Water Electricity, 6.1; Food and Alcoholic Beverages, 5.8; 3.3 and Education and Furnishing HH mainte-nance of the house with 4.6 increment. Still, no index point MONTH-ON-MONTH The month on month price situation ( all items) in the province decreased by 0.5 index point from July 2018 (119.1) to August 2018 (118.6). Inflation rate in the province dropped by 1.0 percentage points compared from previous month’s record. CPI BY ■ Restaurants and Miscellaneous Goods showed the highest CPI among the commodity groups. ■ Next in rank was Alcoholic Beverages and To-bacco with 229.8 index points. ■ Same as last month, Communication group contributed the least CPI with a reported index points of 101.5. FOOD AND NON - ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ■ Index point change for Food and Non-alcoholic beverages dropped by 1.0 index points as low price of Food Products N.E.C. was reported. ■ Price decline was also shown in vegetables, corn and meat compared last month ■ Other items in food group however, registered positive monthly indices. NON FOOD ■ No major changes in the index point can be observed in non-food commodity groups during the reference month. ■ The maximum change was seen in the index point Recreation Cultural Services sub group with 10.4 points. ■ On the other hand, no index point change, was noted for most of the groups/sub groups. PURCHASING POWER OF PESO The Purchasing Power of the Peso (PPP) in Batangas for this month was recorded at 0.87 centavos. This means that a market basket of goods and services worth one peso in June this year could be availed only at 0.87 centavos in 2012. It had depreciated by 0.05 centavos compared to last year’s PPP.
