The headline inflation or overall inflation in Quezon rose further to 5.8 percent in January 2025, from 4.6 percent in December 2024. The inflation in January 2025 was higher compared to January 2024 inflation which was recorded at -0.4 percent.
The increase in the overall inflation in January 2025 was primarily influenced by the faster annual increment in the index of food and non-alcoholic beverages at 12.6 percent during the month, from an annual increase of 9.4 percent in December 2024.
Moreover, the following commodity groups also contributed to the uptrend during the month:
a. Alcoholic beverages at 1.5 percent, from 0.6 percent;
b. Clothing and footwear at 1.1 percent, from 0.8 percent;
c. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at 1.5 percent, from 0.6 percent;
d. Health at 0.7 percent, from 0.6 percent;
e. Information and communication at 0.5 percent, from 0.4 percent;
f. Recreation, sport and culture at 0.6 percent, from 0.4 percent;
g. Restaurants and accommodation services at 2.9 percent, from 0.9 percent;
h. Financial services at 0.0 percent, from -0.1 percent; and
i. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 1.0 percent, from 0.7 percent.
In contrast, the following commodity groups registered lower inflation rates during the month:
a. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 0.8 percent, from 2.2 percent; and
b. Transport at 0.8 percent, from 3.1 percent.
Meanwhile, education services at 3.0 percent retained it’s previous month’s annual rate.

Food inflation in the province rose to 13.5 percent in January 2025, from 10.1 percent in December 2024. In January 2024, food inflation was lower at -4.6 percent.
The acceleration of food inflation in January 2025 was primarily brought about by the higher year-on-year increase in the index of vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses at 26.5 percent, from an annual increase of 10.1 percent in the previous month.
In addition, the following food groups registered faster annual growth rates during the month:
a. Rice at 13.0 percent, from 11.9 percent;
b. Flour, bread and other bakery products, pasta products and other cereals at 0.9 percent, from 0.6 percent;
c. Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals at 15.2 percent, from 8.5 percent;
d. Fish and other seafood at 18.5 percent, from 16.3 percent;
e. Oil and fats at 13.2 percent, from 8.2 percent; and
f. Ready-made foods and other food products not elsewhere classified at 0.6 percent, from 0.2 percent.
On the contrary, lower annual growth rates during the month were observed in the indices of the following food groups:
a. Corn at 52.5 percent, from 57.9 percent;
b. Milk, other dairy products and eggs at 9.1 percent, from 9.2 percent;
c. Fruits and nuts at 18.9 percent, from 20.3 percent; and
d. Sugar, confectionery and desserts at 0.1 percent, from 0.4 percent.
