The headline inflation or overall inflation in Quezon province further decreased to 2.1 percent in April 2025, from 3.4 percent in March 2025. This brings the average inflation rate of the province from January to April 2025 to 3.9 percent. Moreover, the inflation rate in April 2024 was higher, at 4.6 percent.
The decline in overall inflation for April 2025 was primarily driven by the slower annual increase in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index, which settled at 3.7 percent during the month, down from 6.6 percent in March 2025.
Moreover, the following commodity groups also contributed to the downtrend during the
month:
a. Clothing and footwear at 0.9 percent, from 1.1 percent;
b. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels at 0.1 percent, from 0.9 percent; and
c. Transport at -4.6 percent, from -2.7 percent.
In contrast, the following commodity groups registered higher inflation rates during the month:
a. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 5.3 percent, from 4.0 percent;
b. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at 2.2 percent, from 2.0 percent;
c. Health at 1.1 percent, from 0.8 percent;
e. Restaurants and accommodation services at 5.1 percent, from 3.8 percent.
Meanwhile, the following commodity groups retained their annual rates from the previous month:
a. Recreation, sport and culture at 0.7 percent;
b. Education services at 3.0 percent;
c. Financial services at 0.0 percent; and
d. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 1.9 percent.
Food inflation in Quezon province continued to decrease, dropping to 3.8 percent in April 2025, from 7.0 percent in March 2025. In April 2024, food inflation was higher at 8.5 percent.
The slowdown in food inflation in April 2025 was primarily due to the lower year-on-year increase in the rice index, which declined from 2.8 percent in the previous month to -5.5 percent during the month.
In addition, the following food groups registered slower annual growth rates during the month:
a. Corn at 1.8 percent, from 25.0 percent;
b. Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals at 12.5 percent, from 12.6 percent;
c. Fish and other seafood at 5.2 percent, from 9.4 percent;
d. Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses at 4.7 percent, from 7.1 percent; and
e. Sugar, confectionery and desserts at -3.8 percent, from -1.3 percent.
On the contrary, higher annual growth rates during the month were observed in the indices of the following food groups:
a. Milk, other dairy products and eggs at 9.3 percent, from 9.2 percent;
b. Oils and fats at 24.5 percent, from 15.8 percent;
c. Fruits and nuts at 10.2 percent, from 9.0 percent; and
d. Ready-made food and other food products not elsewhere classified at 1.4 percent, from 1.3 percent.
Meanwhile, the index of flour, bread and other bakery products, pasta products, and
other cereals retained its annual rate of 1.1 percent from the previous month.
