Volume of Fisheries Production The total volume of fisheries production in Quezon province during the fourth quarter of 2022 was estimated at 12,551.48 metric tons. It decreased by 5.0 percent from the 13,207.72 metric tons reported in the same quarter of 2021. This was brought about by the 13.6 percent decrease in the output from the aquaculture subsector. On the other hand, production of commercial fisheries and municipal fisheries increased by 17.6 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively. Among the subsectors, production from aquaculture contributed the biggest share of 56.6 percent to the total fisheries production during the period. It was followed by the output from municipal fisheries with 26.8 percent. Meanwhile, commercial fisheries shared 16.6 percent. Aquaculture Aquaculture fisheries production for the fourth quarter of 2022 decreased to 7,104.95 metric tons from 8,222.82 metrics tons a year ago. The decrease in the total aquaculture production was attributed primarily to the decline in the total production of Milkfish by 1,802.00 MT. Commercial Fisheries Production for commercial fisheries was posted at 2,085.21 metric tons, an increment of 17.6 percent compared to the 1,772.56 metric tons reported in the same quarter in 2021. The top five species that contributed most to the increase in the total production of this subsector were Eastern Little Tuna or Bonito (237.13 MT), Skipjack or Gulyasan (231.82 MT), Yellowfin Tuna (81.96 MT), Bali sardinella or Tamban (75.10 MT), and Frigate Tuna (47.05 MT) . Municipal Fisheries Municipal fisheries production was registered at 3,361.32 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2022, which was higher by 148.98 MT compared to the same quarter’s output of 3,212.34 metric tons in the previous year. Of this total volume of production, 99.8 percent was credited to marine municipal fisheries while the rest were caught from inland bodies of water. The volume of production for Marine Municipal Fisheries was recorded at 3,354.23 metric tons in the 4th quarter of 2022, an increase of 4.9 percent from 3,197.22 metric tons in the 4th quarter of 2021. The leading species that contributed to the increase in the volume of production of marine fisheries were Frigate Tuna or Tulingan (154.86 MT), Indian Mackerel or Alumahan (152.90 MT), Skipjack or Gulyasan (136.28 MT), Flying Fish or Bolador (129.54 MT) and Yellowfin Tuna or Tambakol (121.79 MT). Inland fisheries production during the fourth quarter of 2022 was recorded at 7.09 metric tons, lower by 53.1 percent from its 2021 same quarter production of 15.12 metric tons. The decline in the total inland municipal fisheries production was attributed to the decrease in the production of Snail or Suso (2.91 MT), Catfish or Hito (2.06 MT) and Tarpon or Buan Buan (2.08 MT). Also contributing to the decrease in the inland municipal fisheries production was the absence of production of Gourami, Blue crab or Alimasag, White shrimp or Hipong puti, and Freshwater clams or Tulya during the fourth quarter of 2022.
