Volume of Fisheries Production The total volume of fisheries production in Quezon province during the second quarter of 2022 was estimated at 18,018.25 metric tons. It increased by 57.3 percent from the 11,454.57 metric tons reported in the same quarter of 2021. This was brought about by the increase in the output from all the three sub-sectors, namely, municipal fisheries (265.4 percent), aquaculture (22.5 percent), and commercial fisheries (9.3 percent).   Among the subsectors, production from aquaculture contributed the biggest share of 51.2 percent to the total fisheries production during the period. It was followed by the output from municipal fisheries with 35.7 percent. Meanwhile commercial fisheries shared 13.1 percent.   Aquaculture Aquaculture fisheries production for the 2nd quarter of 2022 increased from 7,529.88 metrics tons to 9,221.55 metric tons. The increase in the total aquaculture production was attributed to mudcrab (103.59 MT). Meanwhile, production of seaweeds increased by 287.08 MT, from  1.54 metric tons to 288.62 metric tons of  2021 same quarter.     Commercial Fisheries Production for commercial fisheries was posted at 2,364.80 metric tons, an increment of 9.3 percent compared to the 2,164.41 metric tons reported in the same quarter in 2021. The top five species that contributed most to the increase in total production of this subsector were Roundscad or galunggong (105.69 MT), Anchovies or dilis (101.63 MT), Squid or Pusit or (68.51 MT), Eastern little tuna or bonito (59.44 MT) and Siganid or Samaral (34.83 MT).   Municipal Fisheries Municipal fisheries production was registered at 6,431.90 metric tons in the second quarter of 2022, which was higher by 4,671.62 MT compared to the same quarter’s output of 1,760.28 metric tons in the previous year. Of this total volume of production,  99.8 percent was credited to marine municipal fisheries while the rest were caught from inland bodies of water.   The volume of production for Marine Municipal Fisheries resulted to a 269.6 percent increase from 1,736.96 metric tons in the same quarter of 2021 to 6,420.56 metric tons this quarter of 2022. The leading species that contributed to the increase in the volume of production comprising marine fisheries were Big eyed Tuna or Bariles (1,385.33 MT), Roundscad or Galunggong (536.35 MT), Frigate Tuna or Tulingan (523.96 MT), Anchovies or Dilis (491.92 MT) and Spanish Mackerel or Tanigue (299.83 MT).   Inland fisheries production during the second quarter of 2022 was recorded at 11.34 metric tons, lower by 51.4 percent from its 2021 same quarter production of 23.32 metric tons. The top species contributing to the decline in the total volume of inland municipal fisheries production were Snail or Suso (5.55 MT), Catfish or Hito (3.38 MT), Freshwater goby or Biya (1.94 MT), Other fishes (1.70 MT), and Mudfish or Dalag (1.44 MT) .     (SGD.)
