Volume of Fisheries Production The total volume of fisheries production in Quezon province during the first quarter of 2022 was estimated at 14,876.72 metric tons. It increased by 0.1 percent from the 14,867.66 metric tons reported in the same quarter of 2021. This was brought about by the increase in the output from the sub-sector of municipal fisheries (21.1 percent) and aquaculture (8.9 percent). In contrast, commercial fisheries went down by 32.1 percent.   Among the subsectors, production from aquaculture contributed the biggest share of 41.0 percent to the total fisheries production during the period. It was followed by the output from municipal fisheries with 38.0 percent. Meanwhile, commercial fisheries shared 21.0 percent.   Aquaculture Aquaculture fisheries production of 6,102.41 metric tons for the first quarter of 2022 increased from 5,603.66 metrics tons during the same quarter in 2021. The increase in the total aquaculture production was attributed to Seaweeds (831.36 MT) and Others Species (134.52 MT) in brackish water fishpond.   Commercial Fisheries Production for commercial fisheries was posted at 3,117.77 metric tons, a decrement of 32.1 percent compared to the 4,592.00 metric tons reported in the same quarter in 2021.  The top five species that contributed to the decline in the total production for this subsector were Roundscad or Galunggong (-384.51 MT), Indian Mackerel or Alumahan (-297.26 MT), Yellowfin Tuna or Tambakol / Bariles (-257.11 MT), Bali sardinella or Tamban (-217.37 MT) and Frigate Tuna or Tulingan (-169.46 MT).    Municipal Fisheries Municipal fisheries production was registered at 5,656.54 metric tons in the first quarter of 2022, higher by 984.54 MT compared to the same quarter’s output of 4,672.00 metric tons in the previous year. Of this total volume of production, 99.5 percent were credited to marine municipal fisheries while the rest were caught from inland bodies of water. The volume of production for marine municipal fisheries resulted to a 20.7 percent increase from 4,664.18 metric tons in the same quarter of 2021 to 5,630.70 metric tons this quarter of 2022. The leading species that contributed to the increase in terms of volume of production comprising marine municipal fisheries were Threadfin bream or Bisugo (2,362.8 MT), Goatfish or Saramulyete (506.0 MT), Grouper or Lapu lapu (286.6 MT) and Fimbrated Sardines or Tunsoy (7.2 MT). Inland fisheries production during the first quarter of 2022 was recorded at 25.84 metric tons, higher by 230.4 percent from its 2021 same quarter production of 7.82 metric tons. The species with the highest contribution to the total inland municipal fisheries production were Blue Crab or Alimasag (10.95 MT), Tilapia (4.24 MT), Tarpon or Buan buan (2.26 MT), and Mud Crab or Alimango (0.45MT).   (SGD.)
