The headline inflation in Batangas accelerated to 5.3 percent in March 2022 from 3.8 percent in February 2022. With March 2022 inflation, Batangas average inflation from three months stood at 3.9 percent. In March 2021, inflation rate was lower at 3.4 percent. Faster annual increase were observed in the indices of clothing and footwear 2.9 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 8.8 percent; maintenance of the house 2.7 percent, health 7.3 percent, transport 11.3 percent., information and communication 0.7 percent , recreation and culture 0.7 percent and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services 6.7 percent. On the other hand, slowdowns were observed in the indices of the following commodity groups: A. Food and non-alcoholic beverages, 2.8 percent B. Alcoholic and beverages and tobacco, 3.3 percent C. Education, 0 percent Inflation for food in Batangas rose to 3.0 percent in March 2022 from 0.0 percent in the previous month. In the same month of the previous year, food inflation was observed at 6.6 percent. Among food groups, faster growth rate were seen in the following food groups: A. Fish and Seafood 4.8 percent B. Milk, cheese and eggs 4.8 percent C. Vegetables 3.5 percent D. Sugar, confectionery and desserts, 9.2 percent E. Ready –made foo and other food products not elsewhere classified, 4.5 percent In addition, slower increase were noted in the monthly indices of rice from 3.6 percent, to 3.4 percent, other cereals, flour cereal preparation, bread from 4.8 percent to 4.4 percent, corn at –6.5 percent from –3.5 percent, meat from –3.3 percent to –1.5 percent, oils and fats from 31.4 percent to 31.1 percent, fruits and nuts from –1.8 to –2.3 percent in the previous month. Survey of Retail Price of Commodities conducted by Batangas has generated a CPI of 113.9 as of March 2022 using 2018 as base year. This means that for a typical Filipino household in Batangas to afford same values of goods and services purchased or availed in March 2022 at PhP100.00, needs an additional PhP 13.90 in March 2022.
