Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Region IV-A spearheaded the Regional Dissemination Forum of the 2021 Full Year Official Poverty Statistics for the region of CALABARZON, its five (5) provinces and the City of Lucena on October 10, 2022 at Lipa City, Batangas. The forum was attended by representatives from the Regional Line Agencies (RLAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), Media, and the Academe. Dir. Charito C. Armonia of PSA IV-A reported that based on the preliminary results of the 2021 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES), the poverty incidence among families or the proportion of Filipino families in CALABARZON with incomes that are not sufficient to buy their minimum basic food and non-food needs was estimated at 7.2 percent. Moreover, poverty incidence among population was at 10.2 percent or about 1.7 million poor Filipino residents of the region. Based on the presented official poverty statistics of the region, Dir. Luis G. Banua of the National and Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) IV-A, cited that the strong economic performance, combined with the implementation of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and the Universal Health Care Program contributed in poverty alleviation. Moreover, the CALABARZON Regional Development Council conducted a number of outreach activities to provide government services to communities that are not easily reached and improve the delivery of public goods and services as well as the implementation of the Adopt-a-Municipality project that aims to assist municipalities with higher poverty incidence to access government support and assistance to implement projects for their socioeconomic development. And, despite the impediments to the Region’s economic growth brought by the pandemic, the government is committed to get back on track to reducing poverty in the region and in the country. Presented also during the forum are the Highlights of the 2021 Family Income and Expenditure Survey for CALABARZON and the Official Poverty Estimation Methodology which were presented by Ms. Robelyn C. Revilla, Senior Statistical Specialist of the Income and Employment Statistics Division (IESD) of PSA and Ms. Anna Jean C.
