Poverty incidence in Batangas lowest at 6.3 percent

Based on the results of the 2021 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES), Batangas recorded the lowest poverty incidence among population estimated at 6.3 percent or approximately about 197 thousand Filipinos. There was a big decline in the number of poor people in Batangas by about 133 thousand, from 330 thousand in 2018. Rizal had the second lowest percentage of poor at 6.9 percent which translates to about 226 thousand persons residing in the province. An increase in the number of poor people in Rizal was recorded in 2021, estimated at about 89 thousand, compared to the 2018 FIES results. Moreover, Laguna, Cavite, and Quezon had estimates of 9.5 percent, 10.1 percent and 21.6 percent of poor population, respectively. The number of poor people in the three provinces also increased compared to the 2018 estimates. Overall, poverty incidence in the region was recorded at 10.2 percent among population. This translates to around 1.68 million Filipinos in the region whose per capita income cannot sufficiently meet the individual basic food and non-food needs.
